We are a co-ed overnight All-Elective Summer Arts Camp for children ages 8-16 in Washington Maine. We offer the campers an array of all elective arts-based programs which the staff help instruct/supervise. We are located on a lake and have swimming and boating activities offered as well. The Camp has been in business since 1967. Our session dates this summer are from June 14th - Aug. 18th
We are currently looking for someone(possibly a school Art teacher) to head up our Art Barn. A beautiful, spacious 200 year old barn is centrally located amongst Med-O-Lark’s many art studios. In here, adult instructors teach children techniques and styles in painting, drawing, sketching, cartooning, anime, graffiti and more. Campers choose from a wide variety of media with which to create. These include, oil, pastel, watercolor, pen and ink charcoal.
Depending on circumstances this position may offer adult non-cabin housing or may be a cabin counselor position which would include living in a cabin with campers and having night activity responsibilities, along with a generous time-off schedule. Room and board (including vegetarian, not vegan, choices) included. Only non-smokers need apply. This is a great summer job that is loads of fun, gives you the opportunity to meet others from all over (both counselor and camper), and allows you to teach what you love to do!
*Some of these positions may qualify for Internship/Externship credit depending on your school. We have had that in the past.
Other Studio Offerings where counselors are needed:
Pottery
Individual/s to run our Pottery/Ceramic program. This would involve teaching up to 5 one-hour classes a day of approx 6-12 campers with an assistant.
-In our pottery studio we have about 8 wheels, a slip mold table, molds, and a free forming area. We have both Electric and Gas Kilns.
Metals: In our Metals studio we teach basic jewelry techniques with silver, copper and brass. Making rings, earrings, necklaces, chains, stone setting casting. We encourage creativity and are excited to allow the instructor to bring their own creativity. We also work with the Enameling Studio as needed.
Enameling: we teach Cloisonne on fine silver and copper enameling with both grain and liquid enamels in a variety of techniques including sgraffito, stenciling, etching for Champleve and Basse Taille (we have a rolling mill), scrolling, Ginbari foil, raku and more.
Beading: we teach stitching (off loom bead weaving), wire work, working with polymer, some stringing and resin work. This program is geared towards working with seed beads, but we have extensive bead inventory of various types to augment designs. We even make French Beaded Flowers for hair ornaments and more.
