About the OrganizationThe mission of Navos is to improve the quality of life of people vulnerable to mental illness by providing a broad continuum of trauma informed care with a focus on recovery and resilience. Navos responds to the needs of people with mental illness in King County. Services are targeted to those who live at or near poverty, often as a result of their mental illness. About the PositionThis position is responsible for assisting consumers with peer support. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following: provide group services as facilitator and co facilitator, provide one to one counseling using personal experiences within the community mental health system in assisting the consumer in navigating the community mental health system. Peer support Specialist will also be available to Case Managers to assist in providing a role model for consumers. The Peer Support Specialist will participate in team meetings, risk management, weekly supervision, trainings, and other required meetings to assure continuity of care with the consumer and treatment team.Position Functions & ResponsibilitiesTo perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Assist clients in engaging in mental health and Recovery Services such as groups and individual support.
Provide support and advocacy for program participants.
Assist in crisis/de-escalation in a positive manner.
Complete extraordinary incident reports as needed.
Complete progress notes and SAL's daily and accurately. (Within 24 hours of service.)
Participate in staffing, consultations, and planning.
Activities relating to the consumers treatment.
Coordinate with Case Manager or Supervisor about Consumer follow through.
Supervisor approved outreach duties, including: visiting hospitalized clients for support, accompanying case managers when they are assessing clients, supervisor approved community outreach
Participate in the development of yearly training plans and performance evaluations.
Maintains open communication with team members by sharing information and asking for help in a timely manner to prevent problems.
Remains flexible and effective during departmental changes and periods of stress.
Receptive to consumer and collateral needs as well as staff needs. Clarifies the exact nature of the request and responds quickly and professionally.
Attends conferences and workshops as appropriate for the position.
Supports a system-wide understanding of trauma prevalence, impact and trauma informed care.
Fosters healing, hopeful, honest and trusting relationships for consumers and employees; Value consumer voice, choice and self-advocacy.
Demonstrates a commitment to cultural competence.
Promotes a safe, calm and secure environment with supportive care and family-driven services that are trauma specific and promote recovery and wellness.
Follows organization infection control policies and procedures. At risk for exposure to blood borne pathogens.
Other duties as assigned.Position RequirementsEducation, Experience, & Certification:
High School Diploma/GED.
Certified Peer Specialist graduate with the State or County.
Must have an Agency Affiliated Counselor Registration.
Possess a valid Washington driver's license a with a driving record acceptable to the agency's insurer.
Demonstrated competence in Microsoft Office suite.
