MICDS is seeking a dynamic and talented teacher to join our English Department to teach in our Upper School, 9th – 12th grades, in the 2022-2023 academic year. The ideal candidate should bring a collaborative nature and a student-centered approach to the classroom as well as a commitment to meeting the needs of a diverse group of learners. Our school community encourages ongoing professional growth and strong interest in implementing new curriculum and pedagogies aligned with highly effective teaching practices. Preference is given to candidates with a Master's degree in English or Education as well as experience teaching at the high school level. Application of 21st century skills in the English classroom is encouraged. Experience with a 1:1 tablet laptop environment or the willingness to effectively utilize technology in the curriculum is essential. In addition to serving as an advisor to 10-12 students, the position includes additional community responsibilities such as coaching and/or club sponsorship.
Prepares course materials such as syllabus, homework assignments, and handouts that fit into the framework of a one-to-one laptop environment.
Evaluates and grades students' class work, assignments, and papers.
Compiles, administers, and grades examinations.
Works with the department chair to plan, evaluate, and revise curriculum, course content, and course materials and methods of instruction.
Attends faculty meetings, educational conferences, and teacher training workshops, as well as stays current with professional readings and research in order to maintain and improve professional competence.
Uses effective classroom management techniques to ensure effective learning.
Serves as an advisor for 10-12 upper school students.
Maintains regularly scheduled office hours in order to advise and assistant students.
Maintains expertise in subject matter through professional development.
Meets with parents and guardians to discuss their child's progress.
Assures effective two-way communication at all levels of responsibility.
Serves on divisional and school-wide curriculum and program committees.
Serves as a mentor to new faculty.
Other projects and responsibilities may be added at the school’s discretion.
JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in subject matter required and Master’s preferred.
Ability to work in an environment that embraces a diverse community of students, educators, parents, and alums.
Experience working in a one-to-one laptop environment or relevant technology skills.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Must enjoy working and learning with children.
A criminal history and background check is required and must be successfully completed prior to employment.
May work at a desk and computer for extended periods of time.
Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled classroom environment.
Work intermittently in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and cold.
