Position Summary:
Housed under UCI's Student Success Initiatives, summer transition programs are a key aspect of student success efforts at UCI, providing a wide range of onboarding and orientation efforts for first year students that contribute to their overall transition success and academic well-being.
Provides the full range of assessment, counseling, and advice to targeted students, and makes referrals to organization and community resources. Works independently, receiving guidance on complicated problems / situations. This position provides high quality counseling, programming, support and customer service to a wide range of UCI's various student populations, including first-generation, low-income students, students with disabilities, former foster youth, students who have dependents and students who are adult learners. This position will concentrate efforts and services on UCI's current and prospective students specifically coordinating all programming aspects of summer transition programs from conception to recruitment to orientation to completion. This position will focus their efforts in providing for each students' academic and personal success at UCI and interpret related University policies and procedures as they affect student populations served. Provides information and referrals to students on campus life and resources. Develop and implement academic related programming for students, monitors student progress, outreaches to students experiencing academic and/or adjustment issues, provide counseling and referrals to other campus offices to enhance student success and persistence. This position also maintains paper and electronic student files, ensures confidentiality of student records, and helps with analyses and reports that support the goals and mission of Student Success Initiatives and the Division of Undergraduate Education.
Compensation Range:
$53,500 - $70,000

Minimum of 5-7 years of experience OR an equivalent combination of both education and experience.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Demonstrated knowledge of the theories and practice of counseling, learning, human and career development. Knowledge in how to enhance students' intellectual and personal growth and development, including critical thinking, effective communication, self-appraisal, self-esteem, clarification of values, appropriate career choices, and leadership. Knowledge of the methodologies used to enhance student achievement, such as collaborative teaching / learning models, strategies for effective counseling and peer mentoring, small group facilitation and training, coaching, mentoring, and advocacy. Knowledge of trends and issues facing low-income and first-generation college, underrepresented, disadvantaged, physically challenged, and under prepared students in higher education. Knowledge and experience in analyzing complex situations and identifying solutions for problem-solving; skills and experience in developing and administering programs designed to meet the diverse needs of students. Knowledge and experience in researching, compiling and analyzing data, and generating reports. Knowledge of research methodologies and research designs. Knowledge of and experience in conflict management and intervention strategies. Sensitivity to the needs of students from diverse backgrounds. Knowledge of federal, state, and local requirements to provide for access, health, confidentiality, and safety; legal and ethical issues governing the delivery of counseling services. Experience in supervising student staff. Experience planning programs, workshops, and events. Ability to innovate and facilitate workshops and seminars that align with the mission of each program within the unit. Skills in presenting to diverse audiences while accommodating and being flexible to changing priorities and policies. Working knowledge of computers and Windows operating systems. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite Programs, including Word, Excel, and Power Point, oracle calendaring system, web browsers, and electronic mail. Desire to contribute to the overall success of disadvantaged student populations. Experience working with first-generation and low-income students in a college setting. Knowledge of campus departments and their activities. Ability to develop and maintain websites and provide strategic outreach using virtual environments.
Preferred:
Masters degree in counseling, higher education, or related area.
Special Conditions Required:
Additional evening and weekend working hours may be necessary in support of department goals, objectives, and program activities.
