7/8th Grade Language Arts Teaching Position
East Bay School for Boys--an independent middle school for boys in Berkeley, CA--is looking for a full-time faculty member to teach 7/8th grade Language Arts for the 2022/2023 school year. The ideal candidate:
- has experience teaching middle school or high school language arts
- can inspire in EBSB students a lifelong passion for writing, reading and literary analysis;
- is passionate and knowledgeable about integrating language arts and other subjects;
- has the ability to weave current social issues, equity and social justice themes relevant to our students' lives into the curriculum;
- can perform reading and writing inventories and implement appropriate differentiated reading and writing plans;
- facilitates active, project-based learning and is willing to utilize design thinking and building as it relates to our Work program;
- has a strong and skillful approach to classroom management working with students from a variety of educational backgrounds and different learning styles;
- is open to being an advisor and adventurer (teaching social/ emotional curriculum and planning/attending field trips) and engaging with our families and students to develop learning plans for each advisee;
- works alongside 6th grade humanities teacher and the 7/8 history teacher to spiral the skills taught in language arts at EBSB and integrate content and collaborate for your shared students; and
- is a team player and will work collaboratively with our faculty and staff to model and embody our school’s mission and vision.
In addition, we ask all EBSB staff to do the following:
- Effectively communicate with a diverse parent body.
- Participate in team and staff meetings, attend school functions, supervise student breaks, etc.
- Participate on other committees, as needed and appropriate.
Required qualifications specific to this position include:
- A Bachelor of Arts or Science degree and/or professional coursework or certification indicating training applicable to the responsibilities of the position.
- Experience as a teacher in middle school, and in particular as a teacher of literacy.
- Experience working with a diverse group of learners, in particular neurodiversity and working with students with learning challenges.
