The Associate Director is a member of the Center for Student Engagement, Activities, and Leadership team. The Center is a part of the Division of Student life and includes the Office of Student Activities; The Wilks Institute for Leadership and Service; and the Cliff Alexander Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life. The Associate Director reports to the Director of the Center and works with colleagues and stakeholders in the enhancement of student engagement and leadership at Miami University. The Associate Director is responsible for supervising at least one Assistant Director and provides supplementary support to two additional Assistant Directors. The Associate Director works collaboratively with students, advisors, community leaders, and departments to provide students with the opportunity to engage with communities of interest and develop a sense of belonging. The Associate Director works with the entire Center and other colleagues to develop and implement opportunities for students to understand their leadership skills and how they can use them to positively impact the community.
The Associate Director represents the Center through multiple campus committees that support the leadership and civic engagement mission of the Institute while also managing strategic communications (web/social media). The Associate Director also fosters close working relationships across the Division of Student Life and with community-based organizations.
Exercise collaborative leadership within the Center and the Institute to ensure the coordination of the Leadership and Service Certificate, coordination of the MPACT program, civic engagement programs and other traditional service and community engagement programs and events. This also includes serving as the primary community outreach and community service point of contact for student organizations.
Provide leadership and oversight for the development and implementation of several leadership retreats and workshops that serve a variety of student communities.
Represent the Center on several campus committees that are aligned with the civic and community engagement initiatives of the Center. Represent the Center on several campus committees that are aligned with the service and leadership missions of the Center. These may include META Collective, ComMUnity Connect, and other related committees.
Develop and manage policy for use of website and social media accounts and communications and marketing efforts in collaboration with all areas of the Center.
Teach EDL 290, Nature of Group Leadership (Scholar Leader LLC) or similar course on a rotating basis (typically every other year).
Supervise a minimum of 1 Assistant Director, 1 Graduate Assistant, Graduate Practicum students and up to 10 undergraduate student employees. Provide additional collaborative supervision for up to two Assistant Directors within the Center.
Actively participate in Student Life and University Committees.
