POSITION DETAILS
The Office of K-16 Initiatives within Academic Affairs at The City University of New York (CUNY) creates innovative pathways for young New Yorkers to envision and achieve success, by engaging strategic partners in confronting systemic educational inequities. We are adding a new program, CUNY College Advising Corps, that provides staff to serve as college advisors at partner high schools across the city. Launching in 2022, the program will serve 30 schools within 3 years. The CUNY College Advising Corps will work in partnership with the national College Advising Corps team and near-peer advising model, which represents the nation's largest non-profit organization dedicated to increasing the number of low-income, first-generation college-going, and underrepresented students who enter and complete postsecondary education. The CUNY College Advising Corps will support the strategy and goals of the 12th Grade Project, strengthening 12th grade students' college and career readiness by placing qualified recent college graduates in NYC high schools to serve as near-peer college advisors.
The Office of K-16 Initiatives is seeking a CUNY College Advising Corps Program Director to launch and direct the new program???s implementation and development with 10 school partners and 15 advisors in the first year, and work to sustain and grow the program in future years. The Program Director will manage the recruitment and engagement of school partners, staffing and placement of advisors, and development of program training for in-person and virtual peer advising models. Reporting to the University Dean for K-16 Initiatives, or their designee, the Program Director will: develop the first year of the initial program and its growth plan, including the hiring of full time program staff; manage relationships with program partners, including New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE) and College Advising Corps; develop program evaluation systems to assess impact and areas for improvement, in partnership with College Advising Corps evaluation team and College Counseling Initiatives team; and collaborate with members of the College Counseling Initiatives team to grow the CUNY College Advising Corps program and ensure program excellence.
In addition to the CUNY Title Overview information, other key duties include, but will not be limited to the following:
- Develop, promote and manage program strategy, structures, policies, systems, budget and funding sources.
- Manage, conduct and support ongoing professional development for CUNY College Advising Corps members, Advisors and growing central program team.
- Recruit school partners and support program engagement, including visiting schools and meeting with school teams.
- Assess partnerships and determine target schools for new and continuing partnerships, and help resolve issues with school partners.
- Collaborate with university and college campus departments and NYC high school partners to recruit, screen and select college adviser candidates for in person and virtual near-peer advising positions.
- Create and facilitate differentiated training content for in person and virtual Advisors to ensure Advising Corps members are prepared to oversee postsecondary planning, college application, and financial aid processes at partner high schools.
- Collaborate on pre-college advising efforts across programs within K-16 Initiatives, particularly program goals, expectations and school supervision requirements.
- Collects and analyzes data to identify strategic goals and priorities in order to ensure program metrics are met.
- Provides program updates and various reports to internal and external partners on key performance measurements.
- Travel to various CUNY college campuses and NYC DOE high schools across the five boroughs of New York City is required.
NOTES:
Until further notice, this is a hybrid position, eligible to work remotely and work on-site in the office.
Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.
QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM
- Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience required.
PREFERRED
- Advanced degree in a directly related discipline and commitment to continual learning and development, and promoting college access and success, and the values of equity, diversity, inclusion, community, partnership, and service excellence in post-secondary education.
- Eight years??? progressively responsible experience managing college advising, matriculation, and peer advising programs, including admissions and financial aid advising.
- Experience working with under-represented youth on college access or persistence topics with NYC DOE Public Schools.
- A passion for College Advising Corps mission and advising model with ability to train, coach, supervise, engage, support, educate, and empower young professionals.
- Experience performing in-depth program analyses and assessments, including collecting data and managing databases.
- Strong organizational, program and project management skills to understand complex operational processes, develop objectives, set priorities,execute plans, adapt to changing priorities, manage competing demands and changes and meet deadlines for deliverables.
- Detail oriented with strong research, writing, and analytical skills, and ability to think creatively and strategically.
- Pro-active, flexible and collaborative work style with strong cross-cultural interpersonal communication, presentation and negotiation skills to forge successful relationships and partnerships with diverse internal and external administrators, stakeholders, and partners.
- Computer proficiency using administrative, financial and academic programs, systems or databases.

Salary is up to $91,961, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
