UMBC has an exciting career opportunity available within the Student Affairs Division for an experienced student affairs professional.
Responsibilities:
The Special Assistant to the AVP for Intellectual Sports and Applied Learning will report to the Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs and work collaboratively with the Student Affairs leadership team, as well as the Assistant Vice President for Careers and Corporate Partnerships, the Provost’s Office, academic deans and faculty and campus life advisors. The Special Assistant will serve as a central campus liaison for UMBC’s intellectual sports teams and provide administrative oversight on fundraising, budgeting, risk management, team practices and meetings, travel to competitions and other operational and logistical activities. They will provide analysis and reporting to inform decision making on major programmatic issues and budget recommendations. The incumbent will also be responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of annual plans designed to develop and enhance the intellectual sports program.
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Social Sciences or a related discipline is required
Two years of full-time professional experience in student affairs, education, fundraising or a related field
Ability to understand mission alignment and broad planning frameworks, long-term goals, outcomes-based approaches and key performance measures
Strong analytical and interpersonal skills
Ability to work independently to accomplish assigned goals in a timely manner
Ability to work with detailed information with attention to accuracy
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, a team oriented work style, and the ability to work cooperatively with various faculty, staff, and students throughout the campus community
Experience with and commitment to work with a diverse, multicultural population
Preferred Qualifications:
A Master's Degree in Student Affairs, Higher Education, Social Sciences or a related discipline preferred.
