Job Description: The Director of Learning Communities is a new position in support of the SUCCESS Initiative at RCC. The Director will lead the development, implementation, and assessment of Learning Communities that foster student equity and success. Reporting to the Dean, Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences, the Director will collaborate with Faculty, Academic Departments, Advisors, Success Coaches, Enrollment, and Student Services to develop learning communities to increase student persistence, connect students learning to careers, and improve learning outcomes of RCC students. The Director will provide leadership and support in the curriculum redesign of the college's ACS 102 (College Success) course. S/he will develop metrics of assessment to measure student success and learning outcomes.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Play a leadership role in the design and delivery of Learning Communities
- Coordinate a comprehensive professional development program for faculty and staff participating in Learning Communities
- Collaborate with faculty to integrate culturally sustaining practices into Learning Communities
- Provide leadership in the design and assessment of core student learning outcomes in Learning Communities
- Collaborate with the College Deans and Department Chairs to recommend course offerings, develop programming, and implement ongoing assessment of Learning Communities
- Coordinate with Department Chairs and Academic Records to schedule Learning Community offerings
- Collaborate with Enrollment Services to promote Learning Communities for incoming students and to integrate Success Coaching and Advising into Learning Communities
- Coordinate with Student Services to integrate support services into Learning Communities
- Coordinate with Academic Technology to integrate instructional and assessment technology into Learning Communities.
- Coordinate with the Marketing and Communication Department to develop internal and external promotional materials
- Coordinate with Institutional Research to collect, analyze and disseminate qualitative and quantitative Learning Community data
- Foster the migration of proven Learning Community high impact practices across the curriculum and co� curriculum
- Lead curriculum revisions and additions to the ACS 102 (College Success) course.
- Work with ACS 102 faculty, non-credit instructors, and members of industry to help focus classes into learning community cohorts designed to support students with career exploration.
- Hold regular curriculum review and assessment meetings with ACS 102 faculty and related staff.
- Collaborate with Learning Center Director, tutors, and faculty to engage a student learning profile involving tutors, peer mentors, and other cohort-specific team members.
- Collaborate with non-credit departments on ways to bridge community ESOL with credit-bearing courses for students interested in matriculating to RCC.
- Work interdepartmentally with Academic and Student Affairs to collaborate on a summer bridge seminar designed to increase retention and academic performance
Job Requirements:- Master's degree from an accredited institution of higher education
- A minimum of three years prior experience working in higher education
- Post-secondary teaching experience
- Experience implementing learning communities or high impact practices associated with learning communities (e.g. cohort learning, collaborative learning, community-based learning, contextualized learning, culturally sustaining learning, experiential learning, integrative learning, interdisciplinary learning, embedded supports and integrated peer mentoring programs)
- Demonstrated experience supporting student success initiatives
- Proven ability to work effectively with a diverse faculty, staff and student population
- Proven ability to collaborate effectively across departments and work areas
- Experience in student learning outcomes development and assessment
- Experience using assessment and data analysis for decision-making
- Successful project management experience
- Demonstrated ability to think critically, strategically, and creatively
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, analytical, writing and communication, and computer database skills
Preferred Qualifications:
- Community college teaching experience
