Wyoming Seminary seeks a Dean of Students who is passionate about adolescent growth and development as well as establishing/continuing a vibrant and healthy school and student culture. As a school that has a 40/60 day/boarding student composition, the Dean of Students must be fully invested and engaged in boarding school life. As the primary advocate for students in regard to non-academic student matters, the ideal candidate will be a strong leader and collaborator, forging bonds with students, faculty, parents, and more. This position is both administrative and relational in nature; the ideal candidate will have exceptional interpersonal skills as well as a warm, genuine, and engaging demeanor. The Dean of Students serves on the Upper School Leadership Team and reports to the Dean of the Upper School.
Serves as a member of the DEANS TEAM, with the Dean of Academics, Dean of Faculty, and Dean of Upper School.
Provide strategic direction, implementation, and communication about all facets of student life programming using research and best practices to inform this work. Continue to develop the student life curriculum centered around the core values of the school which incorporates diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging and social-emotional learning.
Support and communicate the community expectations including the Code of Conduct, Honor Code, and major school rules.
Collaborate with the Director of Communications on the production and distribution of the Student Handbook
Work collaboratively with the Sem community to help implement innovative forms of discipline that promote justice, healing, and learning in ways that are guided by empathy, compassion, transparency, and fairness.
Establish and support respectful relationships with the student body as well as faculty and staff.
Continually develop and foster best practices in the residential life program.
Oversee the planning and implementation of student leadership training throughout the academic year
Work with the Director of Residential Life and the Director of Student Activities to promote health, safety, growth, and development in campus activities
Connect and develop relationships with the student body as well as adults who supervise and care for our students.
Oversee the Director of Residential Life, Director of Student Activities, grade level advisors, and the advisory program.
Serve on the Administrator on Duty rotation which includes a rotating weeknight and 3-4 weekends a year.
Bachelor’s degree is required; a master’s degree in education or related field is preferred. The ideal candidate will have at least 3-5 years of experience in a similar job in a high school setting.
Excellent planning and time management skills with an emphasis on organizational and collaborative skills including the ability to effectively manage a team as well as work independently.
