The mission of the Hunter-Bellevue School of Nursing is to prepare nurses for 21st century practice in complex, urban environments and with diverse populations. The School includes 28 full-time and 91 part-time faculty members, with 601 undergraduates and 687 graduate students. Degree programs include the Bachelor of Science (BS), the Master of Science (MS) and Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) in a range of clinical specialties and primary care nurse practitioner programs. Hunter College is part of a consortium in the Doctor of Nursing Science (DNS) Program offered by the City University of New York (CUNY) Graduate Center. Interdisciplinary training is provided in collaboration with the Brookdale Center for Healthy Aging and Longevity; and the Weil Cornell Clinical and Translational Science Center. The School also houses a new interdisciplinary Center for Health, Media and Policy.
Reporting to the Vice President and Provost, the Dean will have oversight over these programs and will be responsible for leading strategic planning; directing faculty recruitment, development and evaluations; overseeing student services and alumni relations; and managing the School's budget. The Dean will promote interdisciplinary collaboration and work with the Office of Institutional Advancement to support fundraising.
This is an endowed Dean position requiring dynamic and creative leadership.
The Dean oversees the School of Nursing to enhance its profile, visibility, and effectiveness. He/she develops long- and short-range plans, and exercises management responsibility for academic program planning, faculty matters, and administration, including staffing, budgets, and facilities. He/she fosters a high-quality environment of academic teaching, research, and intellectual achievement, and creates and strengthens partnerships within and outside the College as a strong advocate.
This position is in CUNY's Executive Compensation Plan. All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience. Additional qualifications are defined below by the College.
A Master's Degree in nursing is preferred.
Administrative experience in Academic and/or health care settings is required and interdisciplinary health experience is highly desirable.
Candidates should have demonstrated superior interpersonal and communication skills as well as a commitment to collaborations.
The candidate should merit appointment at the rank of Professor of Nursing.
