The Assistant Dean, Finance and Administration is a strategic partner of NYU Wagner’s leadership team, the chief financial steward for the school, and the leader of administrative support services. The role will identify, mobilize, and ensure that the School’s faculty, staff, students, and other constituents receive high quality administrative support in compliance with University policies and procedures.
This role reports to the Dean, with aspects of joint accountability to the Chief Financial Officer of the University on matters related to financial and budgetary responsibility as well as risk management. This role is responsible for: School-wide strategic initiatives that advance the mission of NYU Wagner and the University; financial and budgetary management; research administration; compliance and risk management; human resources; facilities and operations, and faculty affairs administration. This includes: a) developing and implementing short-and long-term strategic plans to meet Wagner’s mission and priorities; b) creating financial models and systems for budgeting, forecasting resources and allocation, management reporting, metrics, and variance analysis to optimize fiscal and operational effectiveness; c) managing all financial and accounting operations including operating budget, endowments, gifts, sponsored research, and management-designated funds; d) overseeing the HR function at the School; e) developing and implementing strategic plans, administrative systems, and procedures for maintaining and improving the quality of faculty affairs administration; f) directing real estate, construction, renovation and refurbishment projects, from design to completion, and monitoring space usage; and g) overseeing a team of staff that support these various functions.
Required Education: Bachelor's Degree
Preferred Education: Master's Degree MBA or MPA preferred
Required Experience: 7 - 10 ten years of progressively responsible experience. Demonstrated fiscal responsibility and comprehensive knowledge of accounting, financial reporting and analysis. Demonstrated experience with complex strategic planning and resource allocation. Demonstrated experience in managing relationships and influencing outcomes. Demonstrated creativity and effectiveness in a complex organization. Demonstrated success in developing people and organizations.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities: Thorough working knowledge of finance, fund accounting, and financial reporting analysis. Demonstrated ability preparing budgets, forecasts, and financial plans; integrating multiple complex pieces of financial information to identify themes, trends, and issues. Expertise in a highly regulated organization. Well-developed managerial, decision-making, planning, organizational, problem-resolution and leadership skills. Demonstrated ability to manage people on a day-to-day basis and inspire a high level of commitment and performance. High-level strategic planning skills. Visionary with ability to influence. Ability to generate a strategic vision and to influence people to achieve this vision. Excellent written and oral communication skills. Ability to adapt communication style to address the needs of individuals at all levels throughout the University. Ability to negotiate skillfully with both internal and external constituents. Ability to anticipate changes in the business environment and proactively manage change. Strong computer skills including Excel. Solid understanding of internal control concepts and the implementation of internal control systems in a complex business environment.
