The Student Health and Well-being (SHW) cluster of the UC San Diego Health System plays a leadership role in creating a strong and active wellness culture at UC San Diego that enables all students to flourish in body, mind and spirit. This includes promotion and the expansion/development of a student health and well-being center, and the transformation of existing departments under the oversight of the Executive Director into a cohesive, multi-disciplinary source of integrated wellness services. The SHW cluster includes the departments of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), Health Promotion Services (HPS), Student Health Services (SHS) and SHW Administration.
Health Promotion Services (HPS) is responsible for campus-wide education, outreach and prevention efforts on a variety of health topics. SHW uses a public health model in conceptualizing the delivery of programs and services. HPS provides services related to alcohol and other drugs (AOD), physical activity, nutrition, smoking cessation, sleep, stress, sexual health, emotional intelligence and mental health topics among others. HPS utilizes peer educators, peer coaching, marketing and a variety of campus wide campaigns to impact the students on a population basis. Other programs are targeted to groups of students at higher risk on selected well-being topics. Limited direct services are available such as clinical nutrition and AOD educational groups.
The Collegiate Recovery Coordinator contributes to student success/student well-being by planning, coordinating, and implementing high quality, recovery supportive programming for students engaged in the Collegiate Recovery Program (CRP). Programs include, but are not limited to, peer recovery support, service opportunities, sober social activities, and academic success. Through these efforts, this position will contribute to the continued development of students. In addition to serving students in recovery, the Collegiate Recovery Coordinator will provide resources and materials to friends and family members of persons in or seeking recovery. The Recovery Coordinator will educate the campus community about recovery and be the primary point of contact for the students in the Collegiate Recovery Program community.
Seven (7) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area (Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, Health Promotion) plus three (3) years of related experience/training.
At least three (3) years of experience in addiction and recovery support. Preferable five (5) years.
Thorough knowledge of the health promotion and education field.
Knowledge of issues specific to young adults in recovery. Experience in a college setting. Experience with event planning, program development, coordination and evaluation.
Effective interpersonal skills to interact effectively with diverse client groups. Cultural competency in working with diverse populations including excellent communication skills and advocacy skills.
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Proficient verbal and written communication skills, including knowledge of proper business formats, grammar, spelling and punctuation.
Ability to use discretion, maintain confidentiality and comply with all requirements in use of computer systems and access to any and all patient, student, employee and University data, in electronic and hard copy formats, in compliance with University, state and federal guidelines, including, but not limited to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
Master's Degree with specialty training in Addictions or equivalent training and experience.
Substance use related license or specialty or background with addictions and recovery. (LCSW, CADC, CSAC, Master's of Addiction, etc.).
