Responsible for developing and leading the implementation of a comprehensive executive communication strategy & plan, messaging and initiatives across the company – to support the advancement and achievement of Geisinger's strategic priorities and business objectives. The Executive Communications Senior Strategist is responsible for complex initiatives and projects in support of the organization's most high-profile business priorities. Working closely with the Vice President, Corporate Communications, other marketing and communications leaders, and other functional leaders, this role has interaction and visibility, including providing strategic counsel and subject matter expertise, to the executive leadership team. As an outstanding creative writer and communications strategist, the role will also be responsible for working cross-functionally with colleagues to proactively seek out opportunities to enhance Geisinger's brand awareness, corporate reputation and thought leadership. Effective communications support for the CEO will be a primary focus of this role – and will expand to cover other key executive leaders moving forward.
Leads planning, research, and analysis to develop a comprehensive executive communications engagement strategy for internal and external audiences.
Enhance the external visibility and leadership of Dr. Jaewon Ryu, President & CEO and the Geisinger Health executive leadership team, as well as foster employee engagement by delivering thoughtful, compelling speeches, presentations, talking points and other communications materials.
Lead content strategy and planning ensuring that executives are effectively engaging key audiences.
Leverage company programs, policies, and resources to advance Geisinger Health's strategy and thought leadership in all written materials.
Work closely with the Vice President, Corporate Communications and the Director, Public Affairs and Media Relations in guiding the company through complex communication issues with an emphasis on executive management messaging and positioning; work collaboratively with peers to develop and execute quality communications
Work with the Vice President, Corporate Communications and the Senior Director, Employee Communications to solicit employee feedback to continually expand and improve executive communications activities and enhance employee engagement.
Monitors and evaluates plan performance to ensure annual targets are achieved.
Is a key member of a matrixed, cross-functional team of marketing, communications, and digital engagement experts to implement the executive communications plans.
Conducts highly complex work, unsupervised and with extensive latitude for independent judgment.
Solves complex problems; takes a broad perspective to identify solutions. Works independently, with guidance in only the most complex situations.
In partnership with clients, develops proactive communications strategies, plans, and initiatives to achieve Geisinger's priorities and objectives.
Understands the business objectives of the organization at the enterprise, business unit, departmental, institute, and regional level and applies that understanding to strategy development.
Working in a matrixed environment, leads a team of cross-functional marketing, communications, and digital engagement experts to co-create tactical plans and successfully deploy and evaluate them. Uses department resources efficiently.
Keeps abreast of the external and internal environmental trends that could impact the communications strategy such as regional competitive environment, clinical advances, technological enhancements, employment trends, and industry trends.
Helps to monitor for issues that may negatively affect Geisinger's brand or operations.
Tracks and reports process and outcome metrics for assigned projects and plans. Metrics might include number of media hits, ad equivalency, employee engagement data, earned media share of voice, web traffic or social media engagement.
Establishes themselves as a trusted advisor and counselor to clients and manages client expectations through transparent and frequent communications and collaboration.
Presents recommendations, plans, status reports and metrics to clients and leadership.

Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree in communications, journalism or a relevant discipline desirable.
Exceptionally strong writer and creative thinker with knowledge of the healthcare industry, a keen intellect, broad worldview, and a confident executive presence that inspires trust and respect; minimum 7 years corporate or relevant experience focused on business and leadership communications; strong background using internal communications to drive employee engagement.
Possess gravitas and maturity combined with a collaborative nature that fosters close working relationships with peers and colleagues.
Extensive experience interacting, advising, and working at the C-Suite level; relationship builder who can develop credibility with executives and other internal constituents.
Outstanding writing and speechwriting skills, including the ability to “capture the voice” of key executives and the ability to address key business, cultural, public policy and social issues that are relevant to Geisinger.
Demonstrated storytelling skills.
Hands-on experience with the latest communication technologies, including audio-visual presentation technologies.
Proven creativity in written and visual presentations.
Will have a strong understanding of healthcare, as well as familiarity with industry related issues and trends.
Proven ability to absorb large amounts of information and distill it into compelling, clear and consistent executive messaging.
Strong work ethic and a steady demeanor.
Previous experience working in, or consulting to, a complex, sophisticated, performance-oriented healthcare related field.
Experience working with a wide variety of stakeholders to effectively facilitate communication strategy and execution.
