Produces employees schedules and adjusts schedules after posting, including filling open shifts by utilizing staffing grids in compliance with hospital policies, the department budget and staffing plan. Matches daily staffing to current demand to ensure the staff are present to provide safe staff-to-patient ratios or to meet staffing requirements. Serves as timekeeper for the electronic time and attendance system. Works with nursing management to ensure appropriate staffing levels are maintained throughout the process. Utilizes Lean methodology to continuously improve the work.

Creates and maintains accurate staff schedules within guidelines set by policies, union contract, department guidelines and human resources policies.
Produce schedules in timely manner and taking into consideration: existing block schedules/ patterns, work agreements, vacations, employee requests, workshops, holidays and budgeted needs.
Communicate staffing needs to employees and works to fill vacant shifts.
Identifies unit staffing needs and posts open and available shifts accordingly.
Processes vacation requests
Sets holiday schedules
Enters schedules into electronic time keeping system.
Process schedule changes and trades.
Transfer LOA information into scheduling records.
Acts as a timekeeper for the electronic time keeping system.
Communicates with staff regarding errors on their timecard
Processes timecard corrections
Frequent reconciliation of timecards for accuracy.
Submit timekeeping approvals to Payroll in a timely manner.
Consults Human Resources, as appropriate, regarding questions and problems related to processing timecards.
Makes daily staffing adjustments as needed.
Work with Administrative Nursing Supervisor/Department Manager or Supervisor to determine staffing needs/overages.
Communicate/collaborate with charge nurse throughout shifts to maintain appropriate staffing and plan for the on-coming staffing shift requirements.
Recruit help as needed to fill staffing needs.
Proactively adjusts daily staffing by calling in, canceling or floating employees based on unit volume and acuity. As well covering for vacations, unexpected absences and open positions as needed each shift.
Track and report departmental data.
Accurately maintain attendance records of all staff and outside agency personnel.
Maintain employee data and records.
Maintain up to date skill level information on all nursing personnel (i.e. level III, charge nurse skill, etc).
Ensures that necessary information regarding staffing issues are relayed appropriately to Nurse Managers, staffing office leadership, Administrative Nursing Supervisors and other designated leadership as appropriate.
Participates in department and system quality improvement projects as assigned.
Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and cultural differences of population served
Partners with patient care giver in care/decision making.
Communicates in a respectful manner.

Provides patient education based on as assessment of learning needs of patient/care giver.

Associate (2 year) degree in business or healthcare-related area, OR High School diploma/GED and equivalent experience required
One to three years of previous scheduling experience in an acute care hospital setting
