SYSTEMS DESIGN ENGINEER
Short Role description:
Support a team of engineers in executing Control & Automation projects in various industries, including Mining, Cement & Metals, Oil & Gas, and Consumer industry projects.
Responsible for training new engineering staff on Rockwell Automation PLC and SCADA competencies and skills.
Part of team of engineers and support staff in the execution of project delivery, which includes design, implementation, testing and customer-site startup. Leads efforts to re-use and standardize engineering pertaining to application solutions or technologies across multiple projects. Develops and drive strategic initiatives for the projects team. Assist with quoting and design of control and automation projects.
Reports to Engineering Team Lead, Life Cycle Services, NEW Africa
Experience required for position:
Typically, five or more years' experience Control and Automation projects, which included designing, consulting, implementing and commissioning.
Must have a good understanding of PLC based control systems (preferably Allen-Bradley).
Must have good experience in the Industrial Automation space
Needs to be able to work effectively with multi-disciplinary teams
Needs to be able to effectively manage and develop team members
To be conversant with MS Office software products Excel, Access, Word, Project etc.

Bachelor's degree in B.Eng. Mechatronics / Electronic / Electrical / IT Engineer
Registration with ECSA as a Pr. Eng, a strong advantage
Local language skills, plus excellent English language (verbal and written)
Minimum 5 years' experience within the Industrial Automation environment, specializing in either of the following:
MIS/MES - SQL Database Integration, Standard and Customized Reporting
Electrical Engineer (must be PR. Eng. registered) - MCC and PLC Panel Design & Commissioning

Must be able and willing to travel and work at customer sites, including industrial plants, ships, etc., which may require climbing, working in confined spaces and other unusual work environments.

Drives project review process and gives guidance on project related matters.
Drives professional and personal development of team.
Drives performance management criteria for team.
Interact with all levels of organization on business related KPI's and issues.
Works with other senior leadership to develop strategic plans and objectives.
Participates in corporate development of methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for projects, programs, and people.
May serve as the primary interface with the customer for assigned projects

Responsible for delivering projects that meet the quality systems of the customer and the business unit
Interface with Project Managers to ensure that projects are delivered within the defined scope of deliverables and specific timelines.
Interface with Proposals Team to provide bill of material and scope of work specifications for various proposals
