Under the direction of the Associate Director for Disability Services, incumbent will manage all reasonable accommodations and support services for students with disabilities enrolled in programs at the Morningside campus; provide expertise and technical assistance to students, parents, faculty, and University officers on disability issues; evaluate disability documentation for functional limitations and determines eligibility for reasonable accommodations.
Coordinates reasonable accommodations and support services for students with disabilities enrolled at the Morningside campus. Evaluates all documentation received and obtains additional information when necessary; participates in discussions with appropriate University officials to determine the reasonableness of an accommodation and provide feedback regarding recommendations; conducts follow-up with students to determine effectiveness of action taken.
Manages active caseload of students with disabilities and develop a case management system that supports accurate and confidential record keeping for each student including relevant information related to eligibility, provision of services, and basis for accommodation decisions and recommendations. Coordinates the ODS registration process, advises students about the registration process, and makes recommendations for accommodations and support services. Develops plans for individual students??? academic and/or personal accommodations in concert with other advisors as needed.
Serves as a liaison to selected University departments and divisions such as Academic Advising, Dining, Housing, Public Safety, and graduate schools to coordinate access, and promote awareness regarding physical access, and sensitivity for students with disabilities. Conducts campus accessibility tours as requested.
Collaborates regularly with faculty and other advisors on issues related to students with disabilities. Presents on behalf of Disability Services (DS) at workshops and seminars. Performs outreach to students, faculty and staff and represents DS at orientations and other training and awareness events.
Provides ongoing technical assistance to faculty, class deans, and other advisors regarding the University???s obligations to students with disabilities under the Americans with Disabilities Act. Ensures that criteria and procedures for assessing accommodations are clearly identified and disseminated; assists students in understanding their disabilities and their rights and responsibilities related to reasonable accommodations, as well as, provide support and problem solving assistance to same.
Maintains and develops a network of contacts, and actively seek out and participate in professional development activities to assure a continual flow of current and emerging information in disability services. Maintains knowledge of current federal, state, and local regulations pertinent to servicing students with disabilities in higher education.
Conducts student???s feedback and develops a system for gathering and evaluating feedback to measure satisfaction with disability services and monitor patterns of inquiries to ensure quality of services and identify areas for improvement. Collaborates with the Director on documentation and revision of policies and procedures and the implementation and evaluation of programs and services related to disability services provision. Assists in providing content information for disability marketing material.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Bachelor???s degree and/or its equivalent in Counselor Education, Rehabilitation Counseling, Special Education or related field required.
Minimum of 3-5 years related experience required; preferably in the provision of services for students with disabilities in a college or university setting.
Expertise in evaluating documentation of disability; determining, eligibility for services and accommodations; and generating a plan for the provision of services and accommodations in collaboration with students, faculty and staff preferred.
Must demonstrate ability to exercise astute judgment and discretion on sensitive issues.
Excellent written, oral, interpersonal, analytical and organizational skills required.
Support student exam administration as assigned.
Includes early morning, evenings, and nights up to 40% of the year (September ??? May)
Master???s degree preferred.
