Utica College, a small comprehensive college in Upstate New York, is seeking a Success Coach to be responsible for initiating proactive interventions with all Florida-based students through on-going, structured student contact, programming focused on academic and transition issues, and regular communication with and referrals to offices and academic divisions across campus. This position will assist in increasing graduation rates and retention while decreasing the time to degree for Utica College students. Since this position supports both the St. Petersburg and Miramar campus, the incumbent may be located at either location. This is not a remote position and will be campus based in either Miramar or St. Petersburg, Florida.
Each Success Coach will oversee a caseload of approximately 250 students and will meet with each student at least once each semester specifically to create a class schedule. It is expected that students will also meet with their Success Coach several other times pertaining to other issues (transition, academic, etc.). It is likely that the Success Coach will advise students who are not in their physical location.
All students will be assigned a Success Coach and a faculty advisor upon entrance to the College. A 4-year academic plan will be completed for each student in consultation with the Success Coach and Faculty Advisor. The plan will be updated during each meeting and will be agreed upon by the student, Success Coach and Faculty Advisor. The plan will be shared and stored in a central system for viewing.
Success Coaches will be assigned based on academic school within the College and will be integrated into the school/major areas of responsibility by attending school-sponsored events and through various interactions and partnerships with faculty.

Primary responsibilities include:
A. Outreach to students:
Completes ongoing assessments of all students in areas of academic/transition needs.
Generates referrals to appropriate areas of College as needed.
Becomes familiar with academic requirements and resources of Utica College.
Becomes familiar with all non-academic resources, opportunities, and programs offered by Utica College.
Develops/utilizes tracking and reporting system for students and trends in success-related issues.
Works with professionals in the Division of Student Affairs, meets with students on academic probation to identify strategies for success and to assess their individual academic plan.
May work to coordinate internships for students if the major requires an internship.
Attends weekly strategy meetings with the Center for Student Success.
Attends Division of Student Affairs & Student Affairs and Enrollment Management all-staff meetings as required.
Attends school or department meetings as necessary to keep up-to-date on academic programs; alumni relations; faculty research; and to ensure faculty and student interaction.
Effectively creates an individual student to faculty connection for each advisee.
Ensures that faculty advisor is appraised of all feedback regarding academic progress.
Works with students who are considering transferring to another school (reports from transcript request).
Understands why students are leaving the institution, where they are going and why.
Works to keep information up to date on students (address, phone, text, social media, graduate school, employment history, etc.).
Serves as first point of contact for students for all student success related matters.
Ensures that students who have the credits to graduate have completed all forms pertaining to graduation.
Coordinates with Financial Aid Counselors to ensure billing, TAP or other state/federal requirements are all being followed and moving the student toward successful on-time completion.
Ensures that the Florida-based students have an active, engaging Orientation session and will be the lead for this activity in conjunction with the Director from the main campus.
Produces, evaluates and tracks bi-weekly programming series focused on academic & transition issues throughout the fall semester.
Works to create synergies with the Center for Career Development as the student navigates through the 4-year program.
Takes an active role in the development of the department’s strategic and operational plans as required by department leadership.
Works closely with department supervisor to develop and implement operational goals that support departmental success.
Bachelor’s degree is required. Master’s preferred.
Prior experience working with college students in a residential or in-person setting and college programming experience is preferred.
Significant exposure to and understanding of the curriculum of the programs in the assigned school and associated professional designations, credentials and accrediting bodies.
Knowledge of career paths and maps of related occupations and demonstrated ability to locate and interact with local organizations to facilitate establishing a closer relationship with UC in appropriate areas.
Experience dealing with undergraduate students in a peer-to-peer counseling & coaching settings and a professional interest in working with students in a student services and support capacity.
Experience and knowledge of student research opportunities and processes is preferred.
