Detailed Job Description The Coordinator of Communications and Student Experience for the School of Information (iSchool) assists in the coordination, communication, and implementation of outreach activities, internal and external events, and the overall student experience. Under general supervision by the Assistant Director of the iSchool, the Coordinator is responsible for collaborating with faculty, staff, students, and other institutional resources to create meaningful engagement experiences with the goal of increasing retention and satisfaction of current students. Specific responsibilities include:
Create and distribute all communications for the iSchool, its service courses, and its global programs including social media posts, digital display announcements, printed materials including brochures and special reports, and any other marketing materials needed.
Communications are aimed at recruiting new students, publicizing student and faculty achievements, and assist in the establishment of a robust digital community for students.
Work closely with the college's Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications to execute various projects including content updates to webpages
Create and execute events including K-12 outreach and engagement activities for current students. Support other events such as open houses, advisory board meetings, webinars, seminars, tours, and commencement.
Document events with photographs and video, share via social media and web.
Provide support for student extracurricular activities
Lead the iSchool Student Ambassador program: assist with recruiting, training, and scheduling ambassadors
Provide support to the director and academic advisors to promote student study abroad opportunities as well as office hours and other academic advising activities.
Work with the college's Directors of Advancement and Alumni Relations to engage alumni and industry partners
Other duties as assigned
Department/College Description The College: Golisano College of Computing and Information Sciences at RIT is one of the most comprehensive computing colleges in the nation. The college is housed in modern facilities in Rochester, NY, that include leading programs in computer science, game design and cybersecurity. The Department: The School of Information (the iSchool) is one of six administrative units within the College of Computing and Information Sciences; the School creates and applies knowledge in the field of information science, to bring together people, information, and technology. The iSchool oversees academic and curricula development for both undergraduate, and graduate students, pursuing degrees in three undergraduate BS programs, four graduate programs, and an advanced certificate program - including programs in computing and information technologies, human-computer interaction, data science and analytics, and web and mobile computing. The iSchool provides leadership, administrative, financial, and logistical support to more than 700 undergraduate and graduate students with 28 faculty and 7 staff in Rochester, and also provides support of the School's degrees at RIT's global campuses in Croatia, Kosovo, and UAE. The School is among the university leaders in terms of grant generation and publications, and faculty include winners of university awards for teaching and research, as well as professional leaders, including ACM SIG chairs. The School is also home to several labs and research centers, especially in the areas of human-computer interaction, accessibility, and data analytics. The School also plays a large research and delivery role in the university's Computing for All efforts, to foster greater inclusion in computing and information sciences.
Required Minimum Qualifications Required:
5+ years of related experience, with experience in higher education environment preferred
Experience with electronic communication and social media including Facebook, Twitter, wikis, blogs, web content management systems, and other related technologies.
Experience with event planning, identifying and coordinating outreach opportunities.
Excellent interactive communication skills and ability to network.
Strong ability to develop rapport with diverse set of stakeholders.
Ability to work with minimal supervision.
Intermediate to advanced computer skills including basic web manipulation (HTML, Photoshop, Illustrator)
Excellent time management skills.
Knowledge of RIT processes, programs, and resources preferred.
Associate's degree in a business or communication-related discipline.
