Applies professional concepts and department and campus, medical center or Office of the President policies and procedures to resolve systems problems of moderate scope where analysis of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. Performs routine work, with detailed instructions provided on new project and / or more complex assignments and initiatives. Within defined procedures and practices, determines appropriate action.
Provide support for Windows, MacOS, and networking in a heterogeneous environment of PCs, Macs and UNIX platforms for OEC customers in academic departments and organized research units in the Jacobs School of Engineering and elsewhere on campus. Client-side computing support includes imaging, installation, preventative maintenance, triage trouble tickets and problem resolution. Server-side computing support includes client access, security profile and file restoration. Network support includes IP management, port activations, troubleshooting wired and wireless access issues and act as a liaison with campus network managers on switch configuration, VLAN management, upgrades etc. Create and/or manage existing user accounts within the campus Active Directory and O365 implementation providing integration with servers and desktop systems.
Perform systems analysis, system hardware/software configuration and maintenance, systems and applications program installation, systems administration programming, peripheral device installation and maintenance, troubleshooting and repair for PC platforms and occasionally Mac. Provide remote access to resources including RDP, VPN on various endpoint devices and related communications protocols. Provide event support for conferences, demos and meetings. Train users on all installed systems. Perform general UNIX user account administration tasks. Create web based documentation as needed for internal and end user reference. Provide workflow direction and training for student IT assistant staff members.

Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Experience writing and editing scripts of moderate complexity used to perform system maintenance and administration. Familiarity with basic programming concepts and/or scripting languages such as Powershell, vbscript, bash.
Demonstrated experience with computer operating systems such as Windows and MacOS.
Experience with microcomputer hardware and software installation methods and mechanisms.
Understanding of system performance monitoring and actions that can be taken to improve or correct performance.
Ability to elicit and communicate technical and non-technical information in a clear and concise manner. Ability to work with a variety of personalities in an administrative setting, exercising tact, mature judgement, diplomacy and flexibility to promote positive working relationships and job effectiveness.
Ability to instruct non-technical users in the use of hardware, software, and peripherals.
Strong problem-solving skills. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines. Skill at organizing and prioritizing tasks with the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines, adapt to changing priorities and handle frequent interruptions. This often requires working on a number of assignments simultaneously, all of which may have the same deadline.
