General Summary The Assistant Director of the University Honors Program manages co-curricular programming for approximately 1000 students. The Assistant Director also serves as an Honors academic advisor for approximately half of the students in the program, assists with recruitment for the Honors Program, and serves as editor of the Honors blog and newsletters.
Responsibilities & Duties
Serve as coordinator for co-curricular programming for the Honors Program. Organize multiple group outings per quarter; plan guest speakers; organize Student-Faculty mixers; plan the Honors Retreat, Honors Student Ball, and Senior Gala; advise Honors Student Government; direct Honors Mentor program; direct Honors Ambassadors program; meet with visiting prospective students and families; coordinate with Student Life organizations across the university to connect Honors students with other opportunities; work with Honors Student Government leaders to organize community service projects for Honors students; advertise events to students; create a weekly newsletter listing events and opportunities for students.
Advise Honors students from the colleges of Business, Communication, Computing, and Digital Media, Theatre, and Music.
Assist students in selecting courses; coordinate with college advisors to provide students with consistent, seamless advising experiences; check for enrollment errors; identify students at academic risk.
During the summer, prepare student files for orientation advising; assist at Honors Program information sessions during Premiere DePaul orientation; serve as a summer orientation advisor, assisting with college advising as needed.
Serve as editor for the Honors blog and online student newsletter.
Create weekly content; recruit and advise student writers; promote the program through cultivating an online and social media presence.
Create bi-annual faculty-, administration-, and alumni-oriented newsletter.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Education & Experience
Must exhibit initiative and the ability to work without direct supervision.
Must possess the ability to work harmoniously with staff and faculty in Honors in carrying out the program mission.
Must possess strong organizational, written, verbal, and interpersonal skills including the ability to maintain student confidentiality and refer students to appropriate resources.
Strong writing and technical skills.
Must be adaptive to technological and policy changes.
Must develop a solid understanding of the nature and goals of the Honors Program and the university at large.
Some comparable administrative experience.
Experience with web design.
