What you’ll be doing...
The successful candidate for this dynamic role will provide legal support for the Verizon Consumer Group’s Sales and Operations unit. This position requires the ability to tackle a broad range of issues across a wide range of clients within VCG, in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, primarily focused on supporting VCG’s distribution channels. The person in this role will partner at times with other Verizon attorneys, both within and outside of VCG.
The candidate will provide legal advice, counsel and support on a broad range of matters of significant complexity, including sales, customer care, customer experience, and regulatory compliance. It may also involve support for the formation of new and different commercial models. The role requires an attorney with rigorous legal skills, excellent judgment, strong business orientation, a high degree of emotional intelligence, and a solutions focus, and the ability to lead a team.
The candidate must be able to actively contribute to business strategy discussions and be an action-oriented advisor comfortable making decisions in “gray” areas, with the ability to help navigate to business objectives while meeting legal requirements and our customer promise. The successful candidate will help to successfully implement a unique and innovative strategy within a competitive wireless environment with a strong commitment to business integrity and risk mitigation.
In addition, the individual will:
Provide legal advice and counsel across broad areas of law, including AI, cybersecurity, privacy, consumer law, regulatory, sales and marketing, privacy, antitrust, employment and more.
Provide legal guidance during development of internal systems used by the digital, sales and support channels, including with respect to information security and privacy.
Support and counsel on legal issues that arise within our corporate retail and other distribution channels.
Play a pivotal role in the creation of new support models for Verizon’s aspirations to be the leader in fixed wireless access services.
Review and revise methods and procedures that apply across groups within Verizon Consumer Group to minimize legal risk.
Support compliance with regulatory requirements.
Provide strategic guidance to manage and calibrate holistic risks and opportunities.
Support commercial activity, including marketing, sales, distribution, and procurement operations (e.g., negotiate strategic agreements; oversee procurement team negotiations; manage regulatory, security and privacy risks; and review external communications and customer-facing materials)
Support launch of compliant products and services and go-to-market activities.
Establish and continuously refine legal guidelines and processes with a focus on promoting operational efficiency, prompt client service and maximum level of compliance (e.g., safeguarding customer privacy and personal information, product development and go-to-market activities).
Partner with state and federal government affairs teams to defend against or promote industry legislation or regulation.
Proactively disseminate relevant legal information to Verizon employees, including by way of training and education.
Interface with, and manage and coordinate the activities of, Verizon Legal Department attorneys who are available to consult on tax, employment matters, IP, regulation, anti-trust, litigation, corporate compliance, and other areas of expertise.
Demonstrate significant management and ‘people’ leadership skills to enable the successful management of reports and peers.
This hybrid role will have a defined work location that includes work from home and assigned office days as set by the manager.
What we’re looking for...
You’ll need to have:
JD degree and six or more years of relevant work experience.
Six or more years of relevant attorney work experience in a large law firm, corporate in-house department or government agency.
Bar membership in good standing and ability to obtain necessary licenses.
Willingness to learn and develop experience in new areas of the law.
Thoughtful and practical approach to advising clients in a constantly evolving business.
Ability to identify issues quickly and comprehensively and propose creative and practical solutions where needed.
Ability to partner with teammates and client teams in a complex environment.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and good judgment in tailoring communication style to the audience.
Willingness to travel.
Even better if you have one or more of the following:
Experience managing complex projects from inception to completion.
Knowledge of consumer protection laws, preferably those applicable to retail and sales operations.
Ability to communicate and contribute at all levels of an organization.
Highly developed analytical reasoning, attention to detail and applied learning skills.
Proven ability as a self-starter to make independent decisions and the judgment to know when to seek guidance.
Proven ability to prioritize multiple responsibilities and process high volumes of work in a timely and accurate manner.
Demonstrated ability to handle extremely sensitive and confidential information.
Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
