Reporting directly to the Associate Vice President for Student Life, the Director of the Matador Involvement Center (MIC) provides leadership, vision and strategic direction for the department while also effectively administering a broad range of fiscal, policy and personnel processes for a diverse staff of professional, paraprofessional and student employees. The incumbent holds full responsibility for the overall planning, management, and administration and evaluation of the department's multifaceted programs, services and fiscal resources.
Works collaboratively with student leaders, faculty, staff, administration across campus as well as with community-based partners, to ensure the effective delivery of programs and services that support the University's goals of successfully engaging students within the campus community.
Provides leadership and guidance for vibrant student involvement programs including 300+ student clubs and organizations (including fraternity and sorority organizations), student community service and volunteer programs, and student-focused leadership development/educational programs.
Ensures successful delivery of programs, services and initiatives that support student leadership development, co-curricular activities and collaborations, and advisor education and training.
Effectively oversees organization recognition processes, complaint resolution processes, and Time, Place and Manner policies to ensure compliance with system-wide, university, and state/federal policies and procedures.
Fosters an engaging, productive and welcoming environment that actively promotes an appreciation for inclusion and social justice issues in an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community that serves large percentage of first-generation students.
As a leader, demonstrates a commitment to student success that is mission aligned with the university's vision, values and priorities. Establishes an ethical and collegial work environment, promoting a collaborative, accountable and inclusive team. Earned Master's within Student Affairs or related field in higher education, including college student personnel, higher education administration, counseling or other related degree.
Five years of progressively responsible professional/administrative experience in student affairs or related departments required; with 2 of the five years in a managerial role.
Experience providing student advisement within student governance structures, preferably with student clubs/organizations, community service and/or Greek letter organizations.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities & Leadership
Knowledge of student development theory as well as current issues, trends, challenges and best practices related to student involvement and engagement.
Leadership experience in the development and management of a comprehensive student services program, preferably within functional areas of position.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a diverse, urban higher education setting; effectively advise student leaders, develop student leadership experiences and collaborate with others to facilitate successful outcomes of these initiatives.
Ability to facilitate the use of co-curricular programming, leadership development and volunteer opportunities as vehicles for both learning and service; develop student learning outcomes and program outcomes strategies, as well as assessment strategies that capture program impacts as related to student development, persistence, and successful graduation.
Specialized skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from a wide variety of backgrounds to provide information and guidance in responding to issues of Time, Place and Manner and student actions/spontaneous actions; analyze complex situations, exercise sound judgment in evaluating facts and determining appropriate actions; interact and communicate with wide range of individuals holding competing interests/concerns while clarifying policies and procedures.
Skill and ability to oversee student organization complaint review processes and procures; determine facts, make tough decisions, and generate written reports and recommendations in a timely manner.
Demonstrated ability to develop policies, procedures, and written materials appropriate to the functions of the department; ability to effectively manage budget comprised of general fund, lottery and auxiliary revenues. .
Excellent written and oral communications skills with a broad range of diverse constituencies.
Able to lead diverse teams to support the operational mission and vision of employers by fostering an ethical, inclusive and collegial work environment.
Demonstrated ability to support ongoing improvement through courageous, resilient, and catalytic leadership.
Lead varying initiatives through a collaborative, service-oriented and communicative approach.
Demonstrated commitment to employee development, recognition, and accountability to further operational goals.
