At Stony Brook Medicine, the Patient Access Cashiering and Financial Services Registrar is a key member of the Patient Access Management team, responsible for collecting point of service payments from patients. In Patient Access there is a responsibility to ensure that all valuables meet compliance standards. Ensure that insurances and authorizations are obtained. Professionally interact with all hospital staff. Receive and document phone calls from staff. Ensure all documentation is correct in patients' encounters for the revenue cycle billing.
Patient Access Cashiering and Financial Services Registrar Duties:
Maintain current and accurate documentation for patient valuables collection and distribution.
Ensure audit and compliance standards are met for valuables policies and procedures
Identifying and verifying Insurances
Obtain Inpatient Authorizations
Secure all regulatory documents
Review registrations for completeness
Collect co-payments and deposits at Point of Service to ensure payments and financial care for patients.
Interact via phone, fax, in person and power chart to various departments
Receive and document all sick calls/personal call-ins for employees.
Duties of the Patient Access Cashiering and Financial Services registrar may include the following but are not limited to:
Obtain insurance authorizations for hospital inpatients as required
Create and maintain insurance verification and authorization resource tools
Collect Co-payments and deposits
Secure Regulatory Documents
Registrations are complete to bill.
Receive and document employee phone calls
Communicating with Patient Access Staff and staff from other departments
Receiving and Releasing Valuables.
Compliance standards are met with payment collection and valuables from patients.
Associates Degree with one year working experience in financial services, public health, health or related industry such as insurance.
In lieu of degree, two years of demonstrated excellence working in financial services, public health, health, or related industry such as banking or insurance.
Skill experience in payment collection, insurance reimbursement, access services.
Excellence in verbal and written communication, computing and multi-tasking skills.
Strong analytical, verbal and written communication skills, as well as interpersonal and presentation skills are essential.
Strong PC experience and Microsoft Office: experience required including Access, Excel and PowerPoint, Word skills required.
Familiarity with Medical insurance benefits, demonstrated through experience with EMR computerized registration/Financial/IT systems.
Knowledge of medical terminology.
Previous experience as a Patient Access Representative at a Medical Center is preferred.
