The senior associate dean has responsibility for the operating budget for the Graduate School (about $5M) and the graduate student support budget ($250+M), as well as the policies for support to graduate students, and also serves as our interface with Human Resources for personnel budget issues. The senior associate dean oversees the graduate student enrollment plan for all 42 departments and programs that enroll graduate students, a function that guides the admission process that is executed by the deputy dean for academic affairs and the dean. The senior associate dean supervises a staff of 11, including the four members of the admission team who going forward are co-supervised by the deputy dean. In addition to directly supervising the director of admission, (with the deputy dean), the senior associate is the sole direct supervisor for four staff members in finance and systems. The senior associate dean leads the financial analysis of strategic initiatives for the Graduate School and leads the implementation of those involving funding and financial policies. The senior associate dean is a key adviser to the dean, and participates in senior staff meetings in the Graduate School and meetings of the Faculty Committee on the Graduate School. These responsibilities of the position require healthy interfaces with faculty (chairs and DGSs in particular), as well as senior staff in the offices of the Provost, Finance and Treasury, Research and Project Administration, Payroll, Audit and Compliance, Development, Information Technology, General Counsel, Dean of the Faculty, Human Resources, and others.

Financial and Operations 1. Develop, analyze, and report on $250 million budget that supports over 3000 graduate students and incorporates multiple sources of funding. Provide regular reports to the Offices of the Treasurer and Provost. 2. Oversee internal operations for the allocation of graduate student financial support in compliance with policies and funding source restrictions. In coordination with partner offices, responsibility for federal loan, federal work study, student benefit programs, and over 300 fellowship endowments. 3. Create multi-year models for financial planning and analytics to inform strategic initiatives and support data-driven decision making. 4. Oversee and revise policies as required and ensure that income and expenditures are reported accurately. Work with departments/programs and collaborate with administrative offices on financial support for graduate students. 5. Promote financial wellness for graduate students through system enhancements and programs.
Admissions and Enrollment 1. Co-supervise the director of the graduate admission office such that all functional areas within the Graduate School and the academic programs are served well. 2. Participate in admission meetings, determine and organize the financial offers for those admitted, create and distribute these financial offers, and oversee notifications to applicants. 3. Maintain total enrollment management. Determine incoming admission allocations by department to align with University resource allocations and areas of focus. Establish number of targets and offers, and work with department chairs and directors of graduate studies on enrollment issues. 4. Develop multi-year enrollment projections for the Dean, Provost, Budget Office, Housing Office, and others as needed.
Graduate School Office 1. Manage the staff of the Finance and Administration group and Systems Technology group, and co-supervise the Graduate Admission group. 2. Participate in orientations for incoming students, directors of graduate studies, and graduate administrators. 3. Maintain the Graduate School operating budget. Make recommendations for cost-savings and fund reallocations, and direct budget planning to accomplish strategic priorities of the Graduate School. 4. Participate in weekly meetings of the senior staff of the Graduate School and meet as needed with the dean.
Systems, Data, and Reporting 1. Represent the Graduate School and its constituents for systems and technology supporting graduate student activities and the operations of the Graduate School. Oversee Systems and Technology team. 2. Work with multiple technology platforms for the commitment and distribution, payment, financial analysis and reporting of graduate student financial support, and ensure accurate reporting. Focus on technology-driven solutions to improve operational efficiencies and to enhance end-user experience. 3. Provide support for Graduate Admission systems and , with the deputy dean, oversee analysis and reporting of admission data. 4. Oversee information technology upgrades for non-PeopleSoft systems, especially those systems that impact Finance and Graduate Admission, and work with other offices across campus as needed. Lead initiatives for enhancements and the development of new Graduate School business systems, especially financially-oriented systems.
Strategic Planning and Implementation 1. Work with the dean, the deputy dean, other senior staff, and other campus partners as a thought partner for strategic visioning. 2. Participate with the dean and other campus partners as needed for strategic planning for the Graduate School, especially as it relates to funding and financial policies and to delivery of financial services and/or financial systems to graduate programs (faculty and staff) and to graduate students, with an emphasis on the student experience. 3. Lead the financial analysis of strategic initiatives and lead the implementation of those involving funding and financial policies.
