JustinBradley’s client, a government-funded non-profit, is looking to add a Director of Finance to their Washington, DC metro area headquarters this organization works to advance Internet freedom globally by supporting the research, development, implementation, and sustainability of Internet freedom technologies.
The ideal candidate has experience effectively and efficiently directing the financial and budgetary actions of non-profit organizations, works collaboratively with programmatic team members, and is at ease when providing strategic financial input to Senior Team members and Board members.
The Director of Finance is responsible for the overall management of all accounting and financial activities including budgeting and reporting. The Director of Finance will serve as an internal advisor to the President, other Senior Leadership, and the Board on all financial matters and will proactively identify and communicate risks and challenges as well as ensure that the organization meets all critical regulatory and legal compliance benchmarks with regard to audits, tax filings, grant reporting, contract administration, and other monthly and annual reporting requirements.
Handle day-to-day operational management and strategic oversight of finance matters, including budget, accounting, reporting and finance functions consistent with the organization’s mission.
Assures implementation of internal controls and generally accepted accounting procedures.
Coordinate with other senior staff and vendors to administer employee benefits, payroll, etc.
Prepares all financial, program and grants accounting including grant budgets.
Oversee and develop the organization’s finance policies and procedures and proactively coordinate with other team members to ensure proper implementation and execution throughout the organization.
Leads annual budgeting process; administer and reviews all program financial plans and budgets.
Analyzes and presents all financial reports, including monthly and annual statements.
Partners and acts as liaison with banks, vendors/contractors, payment providers, tax advisors and auditors.
Coordinate and oversee all audit activities.
Ensures legal and regulatory documentation is filed and monitors internal controls and compliance with laws and regulations.
Prepares Forms 990, 1099, 1042 and other IRS-required periodic reporting.
A well-qualified candidate will possess the following:
Bachelor’s Degree in accounting, finance or relevant field is required.
Master’s Degree or CPA designation is an advantage.
8+ years of work experience directly related to non-profit financial management or a combination of training, education and experience equivalent to 8+ years of direct experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position.
Minimum of five years in a managerial or leadership position.
Expertise with FASB, Uniform Guidance and IRS guidelines.
In-depth knowledge of US government grant accounting and Uniform Guidance rules and relevant policies, procedures, internal controls, and auditing requirements.
