The selected candidate will work closely with students and members of the academic community at the University of Utah to promote and coordinate learning abroad programs and activities. In addition to overseeing a portfolio of faculty-led programs and advising students from specific colleges, the selected candidate will serve on office teams to implement and oversee certain initiatives such as learning & development, assessment, marketing, scholarships, and diversity & inclusion.
This position will primarily advise students and manage a portfolio of faculty-led programs from the College of Humanities. This position will also be responsible for supervising a team of student staff members, after an initial training period.
Within the Office for Global Engagement, Learning Abroad serves as the central study abroad office for both the Salt Lake City campus and Utah Asia Campus. We send approximately 700 students abroad annually in a variety of majors, participating on faculty-led, affiliate, exchange, and Utah Asia Campus programs. Our operation is growing: over the past few years, pre-pandemic, the number of students learning abroad increased by an annual rate of 15%. Our office is flexible and offers many opportunities to use your skills in the education abroad field.

Relocation to Salt Lake City is required for this position. After a successful probationary period, this position will be eligible for a hybrid telecommuting/in-office schedule.
Advises a portfolio of students based on academic college, providing support as the student identifies the best fit program to meet their academic, professional, personal, and financial goals.
Serves as a resource to students regarding program details, application processes, university/office policies, financial aid and scholarships options, and campus/external resources.
Acts as a liaison to academic advisors within the assigned College portfolio.
Maintains up-to-date student records in Terra Dotta application system.
Faculty-led Program Management
Works closely with faculty and academic departments from assigned portfolio to promote and coordinate programs; processes applications within the Terra Dotta application system.
Creates and maintains online brochures; manages application processes in Terra Dotta application system.
Serves as a resource to faculty to understand University, Office for Global Engagement, and Learning Abroad policy.
Advises applicants, reviews individual applications, and provides names of those that meet requirements for program selection with faculty directors.
Provides and implements pre-departure orientations to facilitate success for participants in a cross-cultural environment.
Office Teams & Initiatives
Contributes to the field of international education through participation in local and national organizations and conferences (e.g., Diversity Abroad, NAFSA, Forum on Education Abroad, etc.). Represents our office, the University of Utah, and Utah as a state in the international education field.
Brainstorms solutions to complex challenges and intercultural issues to collaborate effectively with on-campus partners as well as partner institutions and organizations abroad.
Promotes Learning Abroad during campus events through tabling, presentations, and open houses.
Participates on two or more of the following office teams: learning & development (pre-departure and re-entry), assessment, marketing, scholarships, and diversity & inclusion.
Bachelor’s degree, or equivalency, plus three years of experience in developing student programs and services; and a commitment to provide excellent customer service required. Knowledge of global political and economic situations and demonstrated human relations and organizational skills are essential elements for this position. Experience working or studying abroad is highly desirable.
Master’s Degree is preferred, as is a background that includes the ability to market concepts of international education.

Study abroad experience is strongly preferred, but candidates with substantial international experience will be considered.
Work experience in higher education and study abroad administration is strongly preferred.
A master’s degree in a relevant field is strongly preferred.
Applicants with experience in marketing and recruiting for study abroad programs may receive preference.
Applicants with a documented history of experience in diversity, equity and inclusion work in higher ed and/or education abroad may receive preference.
Applicants with experience supervising student staff may receive preference.
