Position Purpose This position provides advice and counsel to prospective and current students and University staff in accordance with financial aid statutes, rules and regulations. This position has primary responsibility for administration and oversight of the Federal Pell Grant Program. This position uses professional judgment to review and act on all dependency overrides and special condition adjustments. This position also has significant responsibility for application review and verification requirements.
Responsibilities Financial Aid Counseling: Provide information, advice and counsel to prospective and continuing students, parents, high school counselors, and other clientele regarding financial aid programs, procedures, eligibility, costs, regulations, and debt management. Knowledge of policies and procedures for related areas such as Admissions, Records & Registration, Student Accounts, and Academic Advising must be integrated into this work. This responsibility includes making presentations to groups both on and off campus.
Application Review and Verification: Perform essential functions such as the review of student aid files and the resolution of discrepancies between reported information and the supporting documentation (verification), award packaging, award adjustments, and budget adjustments using professional judgment. This requires continuous review of applicable federal and state laws and regulations as well as System and University policies and procedures.
Professional Judgment: Process all special condition and dependency override appeals. Develop forms and procedures to be utilized when professional judgment is exercised to reevaluate aid eligibility for students and parents with extenuating circumstances. Analyze documentation and make appropriate revisions to application data and aid packages.
Federal Pell Grant Program: Plan and implement procedures to administer the Pell Grant Program in compliance with federal guidelines. Serve as the primary contact person for students and parents seeking information and assistance about this program. Meet all reporting and reconciliation requirements of this program.
Report Review and Resolution: Develop and implement procedures to ensure proper monitoring and evaluation of various reports and processes. Accurate and timely action must occur in order to deliver financial aid in accordance with all applicable regulations. These reports and processes include items such as transfer monitoring, duplicate resolution, and aid applied.
