Working environment: The successful applicant will join a translational science research project within the Department of Pharmaceutics led by Dr. Edward Kelly. This is a highly interdisciplinary and collaborative project at the interface of preclinical biology modeling the effects of drugs/xenobiotics on the kidney both acutely and chronically. The Kelly lab is part of an NCATS-funded consortium focused on understanding kidney pathophysiology and responses in healthy individuals and patients with kidney disease. This research project is centered on the use of a 3D microphysiological model of the human kidney aka "organs on chips" techniques and provides the opportunity to interact with scientists and clinicians from different fields of nephrology, bioengineering, toxicology, and pharmaceutical sciences. The successful applicant will also learn to manage laboratory personnel including research scientists and students, contribute to grant writing, and be primary author on manuscripts. Teaching opportunities may be available to qualified and interested candidates.
Main research responsibilities include:
Apply advanced 3D cell models in the study of calcineurin inhibitor (CNI)-induced nephrotoxicity.
Isolate, propagate and characterize primary human kidney tubular epithelial cells.
Deploy established methods to assess pathophysiological changes associated with acute and chronic CNI exposure, which may include fluorescence microscopy, LC/MS metabolomics, ELISA/Luminex biomarker testing, RNAseq and ATACseq.
Candidates should have a doctoral degree and experience working in the field of toxicology, pharmaceutical sciences, or related disciplines and are preferred to have experience with models of drug/xenobiotic-induced injury.
