The platform operations leader will lead a technical, governance, and matrixed resources team providing them strategic and tactical direction. Leader will support monthly service review meetings, govern MSPs, manage baseline budget, forecast, support annual budget planning process, provide operational leadership, contract governance, and provisioning of all platform services critical to supporting McKesson's pick, pack and sell operations. Deliver a highly available and reliable infrastructure stack, optimized for performance targets, scalable and secure, optimized and cost effective for the company across all business units.
Lead, manage, monitor, and grow a global Compute and Storage team responsible for supporting client OS the systems for Windows, Linux, Unix, AIX, and iSeries.
As a Director of Platform Operations, you will own the operation and administration of our managed OS and Storage services to ensure reliability, recoverability, and optimum performance for systems hosted in the data centers or cloud.
Deliver service availability at or greater than 99.99% uptime of the services at specified concurrency and performance levels.
Create, manage, and report against KPIs for client operations, overseeing all change management activities.
Consistently improve performance and reliability of the environment, driving continuous improvement through operational metrics
Deploy and utilize automation tools to minimize human operational requirements
Creating and delivering knowledge sharing presentations and documentation to both technical and non-technical audiences
Build best-in-class solutions for the overall monitoring, alerting, management and escalation of all technology services enabling self-service and autonomous product domain teams
Being an active participant in setting direction and strategy for the team and its products/services
Provide talent management strategies to retain high performers, attract new talent, and develop high performing teams.
Identify best practices and implement across the department to mature MSP governance
Establish multi-level relationships with strategic clients and create a systematic approach to strengthening relationships.
Stay abreast of IT infrastructure technology trends and as appropriate, facilitate their adoption in a standard consistent way globally.
Articulate and deliver upon the vision, strategy and business value of IT Operations and alignment with IT best practices.
Partner with IT and business stakeholders to define, prioritize and execute projects and enhancements to successfully deliver (within scope, on schedule, and on budget) business capabilities.
Continually review, challenge and optimize the effectiveness of delivery of MSP
Build, lead and motivate a high performing team to deliver infrastructure services and improve employee experience embedded in annual objectives, coaching, performance management, and development planning.
Forge strong, collaborative relationships and build consensus among competing stakeholders across the business and IT peers, as well as, consulting partner(s), vendors and suppliers.
Drive innovation in the delivery of our services through creative means and partnering with peer organizations.
Sets the mission and vision of the platform operations team to foster a service-oriented culture and mindset driven by continual service improvement techniques
Leads the development of the platform operations team's roadmap and ensures its integration with the overall IT and enterprise strategic plans
Works with the IT senior leadership team on the service portfolio and governance required to prioritize resources
Acts as a trusted advisor, and builds and maintains relationships with other IT leaders and senior executives to develop a clear understanding of enterprise needs; ensures cost-effective delivery of platform operations to meet those needs, and is able to respond with agility to changing industry priorities
Develops the annual operating and capital expenditure budget for IT operations to ensure it is consistent with overall strategic objectives of IT and the enterprise and is within plan
Leverages influencing and negotiation skills across IT and the enterprise to enable cost-effective and innovative shared solutions in achievement of enterprise goals
Participates in the assessment of external and internal technology capabilities required to achieve desired competitive positioning
Maintains currency on new technologies and platforms and provides direction on what emerging technologies should be assimilated, integrated and introduced within CTO team to ensure IT capabilities respond to the needs of the enterprise's strategy
Maintains an active sunset strategy for outmoded platforms and partners with engineering to develop solutions to maintain currency and supportability
Champions IT ops involvement in the IT organization's innovation efforts and its role in experimenting with new solutions to take advantage of cutting edge technologies
Provides strategic direction and oversight for the operation and support of IT systems that fulfill the needs of the enterprise, including full life cycle of infrastructure operations and support model
Directs the development of platform sourcing strategy and actively participates in strategic vendor and partner relationship management discussions
Serves on IT planning and policymaking operating committees; supports the development of enterprise technology standards, governance processes and performance metrics to ensure IT ops delivers value to the enterprise and business units
Provides leadership, coaching and direction to the IT ops leadership team, employees, and contractors
Qualifications & Experience:
Bachelor's Degree preferred (computer science, engineering, information systems, business administration or other industry related curriculum)
Master's Degree preferred (computer science, engineering, information systems, business administration or other industry related curriculum)
Minimum 10 years of IT experience managing large scale infrastructure and operations
Minimum of 5 years' experience in designing, developing, configuring, and implementing enterprise platforms with diverse solutions from multiple technology vendors
5+ years in leadership experience including MSP management experience
5+ years of experience in managing IT operations and delivery, including managerial roles of escalating responsibilities
Strong experience in leading critical incident recovery calls and directing SMEs to drive resolution with urgency
Experience with developing RCAs for business stakeholders and senior executives
Experience managing, deploying, and upgrading OS platform, SAN, NAS, enterprise tools, etc for large scale environment
Experience and deep knowledge VMware, Windows, Unix/Linux, Cloud technologies, and all related monitoring and management tools
Communication skills - This role will require outstanding communication skills, ability to provide balanced recommendations that include risk assessments, decision analysis, and advantages for proposed solutions
Proven experience in navigating complex organizations, creative problem solving, and rational experimentation
Strong business acumen, with experience in understanding and shaping technology investments in support of company strategy
Exceptional interpersonal and leadership skills around collaboration, facilitation, and negotiation skills
Ability to inspire a multi-cultural, geographically dispersed team
Proven track record of successful large-scale change leadership
Strong experience managing and leading onshore and offshore technical teams
Knowledge of the Release and Life Cycle management practice
Prior experience in a similar role in multiple multi-national companies from a global perspective
Prior experience in dealing with outsourcing and managing MSP's teams and outcomes
Experience in managing IT Infrastructure policy, standard operating procedures manual, operational standards, and adherence to contractual Service Level Agreements (CSLs and KPIs)
Excellent communication (verbal, written and technical translation) and presentation skills
