Western Kentucky University, Department of Student Financial Assistance, is seeking applications for a Coordinator, Processing and Verification. The purpose of this position is to manage the verification and FAFSA processing for student applicants applying for federal financial assistance. It is a federal requirement that all students wishing to receive federal aid complete a FAFSA form and that a portion of all federal aid applicants at each school go through a verification process. This includes a formal review of the information submitted on the FAFSA; comparison to federal, state and other applicable documents; and correction of applicant information through submission to the Federal Processing Center. This position will coordinate such required efforts to ensure that FAFSAs are processed and verification is completed in an efficient manner and in compliance with governing federal regulations.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Modifying and enforcing policy and procedure revisions as needed in response to regulatory changes
Management of various files and audits in coordination with the verification service provider as well as FAFSA processing internally
Identifying and collection of documentation needed from students &/or parents to complete the verification process
Comparing data on the FAFSA to federal & other required documents to ensure accuracy
Adjusting applicant information after review in compliance with federal regulations
Exercising professional judgment for verification situations outside the normal procedures &/or regulatory guidance as well as such matters as legal residency status, etc
Counseling students and their families in regards to FAFSA processes and verification as it relates to the financial aid process
Performing quality control on files processed by the verification service provider
Communication with and collaboration of efforts for in house and external processes with the verification service provider as well as FAFSA processing internally
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities:
Providing training sessions for counselors & other staff within the department on FAFSA and verification procedures and regulatory updates that pertain to requirements of both
Other duties as assigned by Assistant Director or Director
Knowledge and Skills Considered Essential for Success:
Attention to detail and accuracy
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
Knowledge of general financial aid regulations and programs
Experience working with electronic file transport processes
Work experience in fields such as finance, taxes, public assistance programs, or related areas
Experience working with Excel or similar financial related software programs
Experience interpreting and applying detailed instructions, operating procedures, policy or regulations, etc
Salary Grade: 108 Salary Range: $35,568 - $40,536
