POSITION SUMMARY The academic dean of the School of Theology and Christian Ministry (STCM) is the administrative leader with oversight of personnel, curriculum, and budgets. The dean reports to the Vice President for Academic Affairs (VPAA) and, as the academic leader of STCM, speaks on behalf of the School to the rest of the University, especially the administration, and represents the University administration to the School. The dean may have teaching responsibilities that vary according to administrative demands.
The dean also acts as liaison for STCM to the Church of the Nazarene and represents the School to other external agencies and the community. The dean serves on Deans Cabinet, which identifies, articulates, and implements strategic academic projects and processes to advance the University’s strategic plan and improve the quality and efficiency of work at every level of Academic Affairs. The dean plays a leadership role in developing and implementing data-informed policies and procedures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES 1. Provide leadership for the school in its role in implementing Olivet’s five-year institutional priorities to be named in January 2022. 2. Oversee compliance with Course of Study Advisory Committee (COSAC) guidelines for ordination and assist with institutional accreditation activities. 3. Develop relationships and partnerships within the Church of the Nazarene and with other religious institutions. 4. Maintain relationships with district superintendents and churches within the University’s educational region. 5. Oversee curriculum policies and processes, program review, assessment, faculty development, and related activities. 6. Provide administrative oversight, including recommendations on hiring, promotion, and termination of faculty and staff within the school. 7. Adjudicate student issues relating to academic integrity, grade appeals, student grievances, and similar matters

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED 1. A lifestyle in agreement with the ONU Statement of Mission, Faith, and Lifestyle Covenant. 2. Ordained within the Church of the Nazarene strongly preferred. 3. Impeccable character and integrity. 4. Capacity and discipline to handle sensitive situations and information with discretion. 5. Excellent oral and written communication skills. 6. Ability and desire to work collaboratively and build relationships with colleagues and constituencies. 7. Successful experiences in developing strong relationships with churches and other entities, such as educational partners, regulatory agencies, community groups, and/or accreditation organizations. 8. Experience in higher education as a faculty member and/or administrator preferred. 9. Record of scholarship preferred. 10. Strong managerial skills. 11. Experience with strategic planning and project management/assessment preferred. 12. Experience in budget management and administrative services in a higher education or non-profit environment preferred. 13. Willingness to mentor faculty and academic administrators. 14. Broad understanding of current policies and procedures impacting academic affairs in higher education.
EDUCATION An earned doctorate from an accredited institution of higher education.
WORK ENVIRONMENT Full-time. 11-12 months. Standard office environment. Professional dress. Occasional travel may be required to conferences and workshops. Occasional night and weekend work required.
