The Department of Interdisciplinary Professions in the College of Education at East Carolina University is seeking a full-time, tenure-track, nine-month faculty member in Library Science. The position is at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor. The position begins August 2022. The MLS program at East Carolina University has three master's degree concentrations: academic librarianship, public librarianship, and school librarianship. The teaching mode is primarily asynchronous online.
The Assistant/Associate Professor position will teach graduate courses in a fully online format and will serve in additional, value-added capacities to the department through recruitment and retention initiatives, curriculum development and improvement, and accreditation/assessment efforts. The successful candidate will conduct research, teach, and advise students in our ALA-accredited master's degree program. Program, department, college, university, and professional service is also expected.
The secondary administrative appointment as Program Coordinator will provide strategic leadership and day-to-day oversight of the MLS program; ensure compliance with ALA accreditation requirements and serve as ALA liaison; provide oversight of program marketing, admissions, student evaluation, curriculum, and program development; act as liaison with department, college, and university administration; and provide effective representation and advocacy for the MLS program. The individual in this position is expected to maintain an agenda of research, teaching, and service including teaching one graduate course per semester. The successful candidate will also advise students in our ALA-accredited master's degree program with concentrations in school, public, and academic librarianship. Program, department, college, university, and professional service is also expected.

The successful candidates must provide official transcripts upon hire. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.
A doctoral degree in library, information sciences, or a related field is required. Candidates must have knowledge and experience with ALA accreditation and ALISE statistical reporting processes. Candidates must be able to teach two or more of the core courses (foundations, reference, technology, administration & management, research literacy, organization of information, collection development). Candidates are also expected to have a record or ability to build a record of research and scholarship, and experience or demonstrated ability in design and delivery of courses in a variety of formats. Candidates with Ph.D. or Ed.D. conferred at the time of initial appointment will hold the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor upon initial appointment. ABD candidates will also be initially appointed with the probationary term rank of Assistant Professor and must have the terminal degree conferred prior to the first reappointment. Qualifying degrees must be conferred and received from appropriately accredited institutions.
