The EVC Business Office (EVCBO) provides comprehensive financial, human resources, academic personnel, student employment and related administrative services to the units of the Office of the Executive Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs. These units include the Office of the EVC, Academic Personnel Services, Resource Administration, Privacy Office, Division of Undergraduate Education, Office for Students with Disabilities, Academic Integrity Office, Summer Session, Teaching + Learning Commons, Graduate Division, Institutional Research, International Affairs and the Stuart Collection. The EVCBO also supports the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (VCEDI) and its constituent centers and programs including the Cross-Cultural Center, Women's Center, LGBT Resource Center, Black Resource Center, Raza Resource Centro, Intertribal Resource Center and the PATHS Scholars Program.
Under the general supervision of the HR Manager, the HR/Academic Personnel (HR/AP) Generalist serves as the primary contact on staff Human Resources and Academic Personnel matters for assigned units. Provides back-up HR contact support for other home departments served by the EVCBO. Develops and implements departmental procedures and advises unit heads, supervisors and employees on all aspects of staff human resources and academic personnel.
Applies professional HR and organizational policies and procedures to provide guidance to supervisors and managers to resolve a variety of HR issues of moderate scope and complexity. Analyzes and researches policy, and provides advice, instruction, and policy interpretation to management, supervisors and employees. Responsible for performing comprehensive HR administration on issues involving recruitments, appointments, compensation, classification, merits/reviews, performance appraisals, benefits administration, separations/layoffs, leaves of absence, organizational changes, disciplinary actions, employee/labor relations, and payroll.
Attends all relevant HR and AP briefings and trainings and disseminates relevant information. Coordinates as appropriate with central campus HR, Payroll Office, and other units on actions and issues. Provides personnel data, analysis and management reports to unit and Academic Affairs leadership as requested. Responsible for academic personnel administration, including recruitment, merits, promotions, appraisals, and other issues, ensuring policy and procedure compliance.
Some overtime may be required; time off must be scheduled around peak periods.
This position is typically located on Campus. However, to maintain lower densities of individuals on Campus during the pandemic, hybrid (combination of Campus and remote) work locations may be available.

Knowledge of human resources policies and programs, and how they affect other organizational policies and procedures. Proven knowledge of Human Resources generally accepted business practices related to outreach, recruitment, classification, compensation, affirmative action and equal opportunity, staff training and professional development, and employee and labor relations.
Demonstrated experience working in an academic (or equivalently complex) environment, with a proven understanding of its issues, processes and procedures.
Working knowledge of academic personnel policies and procedures.
Analytical skills to conduct analysis and develop recommendations; strong organizational skills and problem-solving skills. Has working knowledge of other areas of HR. Ability to research complex issues; to gather, organize, and analyze data and other information; to evaluate options and consider potential consequences of actions; to produce concise reports based on data queries and other sources; and to make recommendations for solutions based on analyses.
Proficient in communicating clearly and effectively verbally and in writing and in integrating information in the completion of assignments. Ability to draft, analyze and summarize documents, reports and written communications for final review and disposition by management. Strong oral communications skills. Ability to explain policies, procedures and other concepts in easily understandable terms.
