Carnegie Mellon University's department of Electrical & Computer Engineering is searching for an Academic Program Advisor. This is an exciting opportunity for someone who thrives in an interesting and challenging work environment. You will contribute to the department by providing essential support by providing quality academic program advising, counseling, and general student life assistance to undergraduate and M.S. students in ECE. This position is critical to the development and support of ECE's academic programs and students.
Core responsibilities will include:
Monitoring student progress throughout program to ensure students are on track to meet graduation requirements. This includes performing academic audits of student records, checking for declarations of majors, fulfillment of prerequisites, maintenance of required QPA, etc. Academic Program Advisor trouble shoots general problems and questions concerning academic life and connects students to various resources throughout campus.
Primary point of contact for the HUB/Registrar's Office - management of student record, course schedules, and other processes/documentation as they relate to registration and student/academic records.
Collaborating closely with the Office of International Education to address international student issues and request visa documents for current students enrolled in the program who are moving between domestic and international locations
Tracks physical movement of MS students who are able to move between locations each semester to ensure that billing and program codes are accurate and advisors are available at their respective location.
Ensuring that ECE Academic and Student resource related web pages and other departmental resources are up to date.
Coordinate and co-facilitate monthly meetings including; development of agenda, archival of meeting materials, meeting minutes, and student academic petitions.
Member of various department, college and university-level committees and affinity groups.
Compile reports for the campus community and external use: enrollment, admissions process, USN&WR, NSF, Annual reports, etc.
Facilitates the selection process for several major fellowship opportunities each year.
Participates in department and CIT events - recruitment/outreach, Open House, Orientation, and student information sessions (for new and continuing students). Department Exchange Programs: Manages and coordinates with partner universities regarding exchange students.
Other duties as assigned.
