The VA Northern Indiana Healthcare System is seeking a well-qualified Social Worker to serve as the Chief of Mental Health. The Chief of Mental Health is responsible for meeting all applicable Mental Health as well as Environment of Care Mental Health regulatory and accrediting body requirements at current level of this facility within the Department of Veterans Affairs. The Chief of Mental Health is a Social Worker who will function as the primary advisor to the Chief of Staff and Medical Center Director on all mental health programs at the medical center. In this capacity, the Chief of Mental Health has responsibility for the effective and efficient management of all mental health programs and services. The Mental Health Care Line is comprised of Psychiatrists, Psychologists, Advance Practice Nurses, Social Workers, Physician Assistants, Resident/trainees, Outpatient nursing staff, and Administrative Support. Programs under direct authority of the MHSC include, but are not limited to: Inpatient psychiatry; Residential substance abuse and PTSD treatment programs; General outpatient, PTSD, and substance abuse clinics; and MHICM and Primary Care Mental Health Integration. Duties/responsibilities will include, but are not limited to: Responsible for the daily clinical operations of Mental Health Care Line. Responsible for assessing the needs of the Veteran population and setting the direction of the clinical programming within the care line. Fiduciary responsibility to ensure that the incumbent optimized the use of the resources available. Use of data and analysis to make clinical programming and resource decisions. Responsible for ensuring supervision of all clinical staff within the care line. Manage issues with performance or conduct through progressive disciplinary action. Determine provider time in clinic, grid validation, and productivity expectations. Ensure, on an ongoing basis, that resources have been maximized and reallocated when necessary. Engage effectively with other disciplines and have strong communication and team-building skills. Engage in leadership and quality improvement activities, supporting the improvement of mental health services. Organize and run Care Line Executive meetings, Steering Committee meetings, and all Care Line meetings to facilitate implementation and coordination of policies and effective standards of care. Monitor and distribute provider-specific workload reports to team members and ensure provider adherence to workload standards. Participate in the hiring of new staff members for the team. Manage the Care Line in a way that sustains enthusiasm of the team members for the clinical mission of service to Veterans. Patient care responsibilities as required by the need of the Care Line and patients (typically 0.5 - 2.0 days per week). Other duties as assigned.
