Duties & Responsibilities: School of Business Career Development Initiatives and Support Strategic Planning In accordance with the mission and strategic plan of the Career Development Center and School of Business, develops and evaluates a comprehensive career development program to meet the needs of undergraduate students from the School of Business in partnership with the Senior Director of Student Professional Development Manages strategy and administration as well as develops, advocates, and implements events for the Passport Program, a Career Readiness Program (CRP) In collaboration with the Marketing Coordinator and the Assistant Director of Assessment and Planning, develops an Annual Career Development Center report for School of Business along with marketing and communicating CDev events and programming initiatives among SB stakeholders In collaboration with the Assistant Director of Assessment and Planning, measures the usage and effectiveness of the Career Development Center within the School of Business and using this information to improve upon the initiatives offered to students that will assist them in professional and career success. Program Development Coordinates and facilitates classroom presentations and workshops to meet the career development needs of students within the School of Business. Creates, implements, and evaluates new Passport events and approves individual Passport activities such as completion of an internship, or community service learning project, or any other experiential learning or curricular based activity designated by the School of Business Student Professional Development team and Career Development Center to ensure student completion of Passport Serves as the counselor lead on Business-specific Torero Treks and networking events. Manages Business resume books As determined by the Dean of the School of Business, it serves as a liaison with Advisory Boards or special tasks forces to ensure optimal career development programming. Assists the Assistant Dean of Student Success in Academic Integrity charges with students who violate policies in place for the PASSPORT Program. Works with Assistant Dean of Student Success and Associate Director of Career Development on any health and wellness concerns involving student participation in PASSPORT. Working with the Assistant Director of Employer Relations and SPDM team assists the School of Business administration in creating and/or expanding relationships with industry partners for the purpose of internship and full-time employment for Business majors. Supports Career Development Center (CDEV) leadership in developing and executing CDEV strategy and programming and attend, promote and support related programming (Treks, Career Fairs, Resumania, etc)
Relationship Building and Liaison Roles Collaborates with and builds strong partnerships with the School of Business administrators, faculty, and other campus partners in order to implement programs to meet the career development needs of School of Business students. Specifically serves as the liaison to the student organizations and corresponding SPDMs/club advisors within the School of Business. Partners with the Employer Relations team and SPDM team to develop and maintain relationships with employers, parents, graduate schools, and alumni from various sectors and industries to increase internship, job, and graduate school opportunities for students and alumni from the School of Business. Serves as the Career Development Center's liaison to Dean and Associate Dean of School of Business; attends Dean's meetings and strategic planning meetings.
Provides individual career counseling (appointments and office hours advising) for School of Business students and recent alumni. Counsels students on decisions regarding the relationship of major to career choice and/or graduate school, researching occupational information, and conducting informational interviews. Teaches students how to develop an individualized job search plan, prepare a resume and cover letter, and participate effectively in a variety of interview settings. Critiques students' written materials including resumes, cover letters, and personal statements, and offers direct, personalized feedback. Conducts individual mock interviews and offers verbal feedback to improve student effectiveness in securing employment or graduate school acceptance.
The Assistant Director, Career Development, School of Business will exercise supervision over the Career Development Center's Career Counselor, School of Business. Exercises supervision on any student intern or graduate assistant assistance on CDev and School of Business-related projects or programs.
Represents the Career Development Center and School of Business at professional conferences and meetings. Serves as a liaison to professional associations in order to stay abreast of current developments in career counseling, graduate school, and employment trends.
Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in related area (College Student Personnel, Higher Education, Counseling, Human Resources, Business Administration) Minimum of 3 years full-time experience in a university or industry setting providing career-related exploration, advising, coaching, or discernment advice to students.
Preferred Qualifications: Preference of 3-5 years or more of experience working in a university Career Center Strong knowledge of career development topics including assessments, resumes and cover letters, job and internship search strategies, interviewing, and LinkedIn Demonstrated proficiency in developing professional and collaborative relationships with students, alumni, staff, administrators, faculty, employers, and parents; proven ability to collaborate and develop programming with multiple campus partners Working knowledge and awareness of college student development theories, career development theories, and/or counseling theories, particularly for liberal arts students Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. Understands & respects identities lived experiences and worldviews. Addresses systemic issues within career development space Proficiency in program development and evaluation; demonstrated ability to develop and measure student learning outcomes Experience with administering and interpreting career assessments such as the Strong Interest Inventory and Myers Briggs Type Indicator Strong writing skills with the ability to write/edit professional correspondence and reports Strong public speaking skills; demonstrated ability to present to students, faculty, administrators, and parents Experience supervising counselors, graduate students and/or student workers, including conducting evaluations Knowledge of graduate school admission process; experience advising students on the application process, required prerequisites, and personal statement/statement of purpose The ability to manage time effectively while working on multiple projects Experience working with Career Management System (Symplicity, Handshake, 12Twenty) Ability to plan and facilitate group presentations and workshops Ability to work with community partners on and off campus; preference given to candidates with experience working with Business employers and majors Demonstrated proficiency in one or more of the following: program management educational resources management online resources management graduate level intern supervision Presentation, writing, and MS-Office skills Ability to work collaboratively on team projects with diverse individuals Flexibility and willingness to work early mornings, evenings and weekends as needed
