JOB SUMMARY The Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) Manager oversees the program in Medical Laboratory Science and serves as the accreditation MLS Program Director. The position is responsible for the accreditation and effectiveness of the MLS program. Teaches, coordinates and evaluates student learning experiences to attain the highest quality outcomes in the didactic and clinical phases of the Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) program and other education activities (e.g., in-service presentations, etc.).
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ORGANIZATION, ADMINISTRATION, PERIODIC REVIEW, PLANNING, DEVELOPMENT AND GENERAL EFFECTIVENESS OF THE MLS PROGRAM
Establishes, develops and implements policies, criteria and procedures for faculty development and continuing education programs of MLS and other laboratory personnel.
Establishes, develops, and implements policies, criteria and procedures for maintaining program records in accordance with accreditation and certification guidelines.
Establishes, develops and implements policies, criteria and procedures for the curriculum, instruction and evaluation.
Consults with the Medical Advisor concerning medical content and activities of the Program; also consults with other laboratory personnel, clinical and academic affiliates, committees, community groups and other education facilities concerning program goals, activities and outcomes.
Maintains and manages program statistics (benchmarks), records, reports, and inventory of equipment and supplies.
PERFORMS TEACHING AND COURSE CURRICULUM DEVELOPMENT OF THE MLS PROGRAM.
Develops course and curriculum content to help ensure a quality educational experience for students in all aspects of the MLS program and other education activities.
Prepares instructional materials as needed that are thorough and appropriate to the area of Medical Laboratory Science.
Assesses existing curriculum to be able to offer informed input as to the effectiveness of them when required to do so.
Consults with the Medical Laboratory Science Manager, a Medical Advisor, and laboratory staff on a regular basis concerning the clinical and medical content and activities of the program.
Maintains and updates knowledge and skill in specialty areas to remain current at all times Attends meetings concerning the program and profession as needed
Teaches and evaluates the outcomes of student learning experiences to ensure an optimal educational experience.
Conducts student learning experiences and lectures that are informative, relevant, current and interesting for the students.
Maintains accurate records of student activities and evaluations, as well as the required supplies and equipment to ensure that all needed items are consistently available.
Counsels students periodically and when needed to ensure their success and quality development.
Manages projects related to academic development of students.
Performs other position appropriate duties as required in a competent, professional and courteous manner.
