Eagle Rock School and Professional Development Center (Eagle Rock / ERS), is seeking an experienced youth/school counselor to serve as our Health and Wellness Counselor (HWC). The HWC will be both a mental health counselor and a life skills coach. They will act as a student advocate, and will help students gain access to resources to nurture their personal growth. They will provide education and assistance to students and staff regarding mental health issues and will conduct individual and group counseling sessions with students. A key part of the job is living and interacting among students for certain key moments of the week (nights and weekends). Shifts can be long and work schedules are often variable, involving being on call. The position will require excellent emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills, and an unwavering passion to serve and celebrate our students, offering support to overcome barriers and access the resources they need to be healthy and thriving.

Conduct research on current mental health trends, resources and practices
Create an ERS staff mental health manual
Teach a wellness class (sexual health, coping skills, or other related classes)
Advocate for acceptance and integration of students navigating mental health issues
Take on other residential duties as assigned by the Director of Health and Wellness
Be open to working as a residential Houseparent for student housing
Participate as an active member of one of the residential house teams, including mentoring students through advisory
Create and deliver mental health programming opportunities as part of an evening program team
Perform other duties related to being an active community member at ERS, including advisories, community meetings, service projects, house team participation, and other community events
Share your unique skills with the school, e.g., sports, art, music, spiritual practices, poetry, yoga, hiking, etc
Engage in weekly staff DEI affinity and alliance spaces, commit to individual/alone DEI learning
Be a role model and active member of the ERS community beyond this job description

Master’s Degree in school counseling, social work, psychology, human services, or related field
4+ years of post-degree clinical experience with adolescents
Bilingual preferred, with ability to provide services in English and Spanish
Knowledge and experience with: trauma-informed care, somatic leadership, holistic practices, solution-focused interventions, and other theories and practices that are resilience and empowerment based
Knowledge and experience working with mental health, sexual assault/trauma, and substance use issues, with emphasis on adolescents
Formal or informal teaching experience preferred
Excellent written and oral communication skills; effective public speaker and listener
Strong organizational, time management and leadership skills
Experience working in a residential setting, with knowledge of residential policies and procedures; experience living in a residential community preferred

Candidates must be willing and able to work and live at a year-round, community-focused, residential high school.
