Hofstra Universityâ€™s School of Education seeks applications for an Assistant/Associate Director for New York State grant funded initiatives; Liberty Partnerships Program (LPP) and Science and Technology Entry Program (STEP).
The Assistant/Associate Director reporting to the Project Director, oversees the day-to-day functions of the STEP Program and organizes various major functions of the LPP Program. The position also includes work with teachers, curriculum development; program planning and organization; student advising and workshop administration; budgeting and creating reports. The Assistant/Associate Director will be responsible for assisting with the creation, management and administration of services leading to interest in fields including science and technology and those that require licensure. The position is highly collaborative and includes oversight of several staff.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Saturday/Summer Scholarsâ€™ Academy Create master classroom schedule, evaluate educational consultants throughout the year, plan for classroom syllabi/emergency lesson plans and schedule/oversee regular meetings. Supervise educational consultants and assign substitutes when necessary. Evaluate teachers and classes and offer feedback.
Pre-collegiate Advising and Workshops Schedule sessions with students to discuss topics including academics, tutoring and programmatic adjustments; meet with students regularly to manage progress and keep record of meetings and topics discussed. Collaborate with school counselors on student progress. Host workshops on Hofstra University campus and at partner schools.
Budget management Forecast, create and balance STEP Program budgets throughout the year. Make adjustments, submit payments and reconcile expenses. Create consultant contracts, invoices and settle encumbrances.
Midyear and end-of-year reports Manage student data for New York State Education Department reporting, including folders for each program participant for both programs, LPP and STEP. Coordinate with staff members on information gathering on student enrollment and participation for both programs.
Regents Preparation Provide oversight and assistance with planning colloquiums and Regents preparatory activities, including speakers, room and food reservations. Work directly with teachers in organizing activities including curriculum development and assembly of equipment and materials.
Recognition Ceremonies Provide direction and oversight for recognition and celebratory activities including students, educational consultants, parents and invited guests. Oversee and assist with coordination of activities associated with each occasion including invitations, student certificates and teacher evaluations, etc.
Student Conferences and College Tours Provide oversight and coordination of all activities associated with conference preparation for students including registration, research presentations, hotel accommodations and travel arrangements, pre-trip meetings, permission slips, student absence letter, where necessary, and acquisition of parent chaperones.
Parent Involvement Oversee meetings with parents/guardians covering topics including their participation in student academic preparation, informative workshops, fund raisers and being chaperones.
The position includes Saturday hours, travel to local school districts and occasional overnight obligations for conferences and tours.
