What you will do-
Support Product Development and Engineering teams developing life-saving devices, by creating and/or maintaining product instructional material.Deliverables may include product instructions for use, getting started guides, user reference materials, online help, and other product-related documentation - and analysis of human factors/usability of these deliverables.As a Senior Staff Technical Writer at Stryker, your expertise is imperative in helping us deliver our mission to make healthcare better.
In your role, you'll work with a variety of technology and regulatory/quality-focused teams, using your expertise to influence long range goals at Stryker.You'll conduct research to develop instructional information for products according to user needs and regulatory requirements for domestic and international customers.You'll also interface cross-functionally within the product development team to acquire source material for documents and to develop an understanding of the products.You'll interview and collect information from Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and may interface with legal advisors to develop critical product information. You'll also work with SMEs to assess changes in standards and regulations to determine impact on deliverables.
Although collaboration is key, you'll also work independently at times, documenting, implementing, and troubleshooting as you ensure deliverables and work products meet and exceed our high standards.You'll manage the project records during development, apply corporate and regulatory documentation requirements, and create and maintain technical communication project schedules, driving milestones to completion.You may review, edit, and consult on the work of others prepared within functional area, other departments or by external suppliers to ensure quality of deliverables.
You will also have the opportunity to influence best practice and continuous improvement efforts within the team. This may entail topics such as development of style guides, standardized text and graphics, analysis and development of workflows, and identifying and applying appropriate technologies to meet technical communications and business goals.
What you need-
Bachelor's degree is required; (BA, BS, or MA in English, Technical Writing, Technical Communication, Communication, or related curriculum strongly preferred)
6+ years technical writing/communication experience is required; (direct experience within medical device or other regulated industry preferred)
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office
Strong working knowledge of software technologies used for writing, publishing, and document control (e.g. Adobe Creative Cloud, XML)
Minimum 1 year experience with topic-based authoring (e.g. Author-it, Arbortext, DITA), and CSS publishing to PDF
Experience working with component content management systems as related to the modular reuse of content
Experience independently researching products by reading technical and other documentation, interviewing subject matter experts and using prototype hardware and software
Proven ability to organize and develop instructional materials through development of text, applications of graphical elements, illustrations, charts, diagrams, etc.
Knowledge of domestic and international regulatory requirements; and standards and guidance pertaining to medical device labeling requirements
Experience developing communication deliverables for language translation to a global audience that include patients, physicians, and health care staff
Experience creating medical device instructions for use
Project management and organizational skills
Excellent people and communication skills
Experience working with engineering departments
Demonstrated knowledge of the code of federal regulations governing medical device labeling
Experience working in a regulated industry
