The Department Head of User Success & Services provides innovative leadership for planning, development, project management, implementation, assessment, and support of staff and peer-based user services on campus and virtually in a 24/7 environment. The Department Head has administrative responsibility for the department's strategic planning, staffing, and daily operations. In addition, this position contributes to the libraries' strategic and operational planning and assessment. This position serves as a senior advisor to the libraries' leadership team and interacts extensively with other campus units and libraries' departments on issues related to affordability, student success, and faculty excellence.
Reflects the Libraries' Guiding Principles in partnership and service to students, faculty, academic success departments, colleagues, and the broader university community. Customizes and personalizes support services for students, faculty, colleagues, and community members virtually and in person. Provides leadership for the Academic Plaza; a collaboration of student academic success departments focused on increasing retention, persistence, and student success. Broadens awareness and fosters engagement in affordability, student success, and faculty excellence initiatives. Creates and articulates the libraries' vision for User Success and Services. Develops partnerships and collaborates with other university and libraries departments to foster student success. Provides leadership for goal setting, mentoring, management, hiring, and evaluation of staff within the User Success and Services Department. Provides leadership and vision in identifying, planning, and implementing future, innovative library services as a member of the Dean's Department Heads and Directors Leadership Team. Advances departmental, Libraries', and university goals. Be an advocate and ally for equity, diversity, justice, and inclusion. Participate in committees and task forces within the libraries, university, and the profession. Identify and integrate best practices in service, teaching and learning, and scholarly activity. Foster an environment of continual professional development, improvement, and learning. Continuously assess and iterate programs to improve services and advance initiatives. Demonstrate commitment to innovation and discovery in order to remain relevant in higher education and support others in doing so as well. Performs other duties as assigned.
Master's degree in library and/or information science from an ALA-accredited program or a related graduate degree. Minimum of five (5) years of increasingly responsible professional experience with at least two (2) years in a research or academic library; two (2) years of demonstrated project or personnel leadership experience. Strong capacity for working enthusiastically, flexibly, and creatively in a student-centered environment. Experience developing programming, managing projects, and advocating for student success, affordability, and faculty excellence initiatives. Three (3) years of supervisory experience.
