The emerging biopharma space will have a heavy focus on Hub services as well as Specialty Management. This market segment has a significant pipeline of infusible and injectable medications that will go through the pharmacy and payor channel, needing traditional pharmacy benefit prior authorization as well as medical benefit approval using J-Codes. This market has traditionally utilized a combination of internal and external consultants to drive launch strategies as well as Requests for Proposal (RFP) into the service side of the business in order to source the best firms to deliver services they need for the successful launch of their therapies.
The Director, Emerging Biopharma for Access and Adherence and Affordability Solutions, is a field-based position, working closely with a team of Business Development and National Sales Directors targeting pharmaceutical and emerging biotechnology manufacturers primarily in specialty therapeutics markets. This person is responsible for partnering with relevant company stakeholders and influencers, including the C-Suite of the targeted organizations to ensure they understand the service delivery capabilities across the division as well as to understand and be an active participant in the client's unique launch strategies of new therapies. The job incumbent's mission is to identify new business opportunities through relationship management and thorough understanding of critical services needed to ensure a successful launch for the client. The Director will be expected to represent the suite of services offered by CMM, build an account strategy and executive profile for each client and transfer qualified leads and identified prospect need(s) to respective National Sales Director. They will also create and facilitate opportunities for our internal leaders to hear from clients from time to time on key issues impacting their businesses.
Lead strategic discussions to prospective biotech manufacturers through proactive targeting and outreach in order to drive an understanding of key launch strategies and service needs prior to the launch of new therapies.
Completes strategic plan, stakeholder mapping and profile for each manufacturer prospect
Proactively identifies opportunities to position services with manufacturer accounts
Work with the analytics team and business development team to target the near-term and longer-term list of prospects. Criteria will be established and reinforced so additional prospects can be added across time. A Tier 1 and Tier 2 approach is ideal
Align the emerging biopharma Director with a comprehensive list of consultant firms and appropriate National Sales Directors
This person will represent both the Access/Adherence and Affordability Service Lines and has an understanding of Third Party Logistics (3PL) as well as the clinical trials process
Create a feedback loop to the product team so product enhancement and new product ideas can flow from the client base, versus product to client
Facilitate client focus groups and small advisory forums so our senior leaders can hear the Voice of the Customer and understand what is important to them as well as market challenges
Building relationships at the top of the biopharma organizations is a key function
The completion of a power chart will allow us to manage the status of relationships which will lead to seamless interaction with sales and account management
Serve as an advisor to the RFP team to ensure we are articulating a comprehensive story on why a one McKesson solution is the best solution for the client. This advisory input will be based on specific interactions from emerging biopharma prospects through direct as well as through consultant channel dialogue
Work with analytics team to illustrate increased sales opportunities from baseline, impact of business development campaigns, overall win rate and revenue impact on an annualized basis
Establish a strong link to the product and operations side of our business as the growing biopharma pipeline will have a heavy focus on the specialty market. This link will ensure alignment from a capacity and product solutioning standpoint
Articulate value proposition of products / services at a high level with key messaging
Maintain post-sales engagement with Account Management to ensure continued success and help identify upsell opportunities
Seeks out and/or identifies new business processes to increase handoff efficiency of new opportunities
Attends and supports industry trade shows, company sponsored and/or internal company meetings as needed
Typically requires 10+ years of relevant experience in the healthcare industry, pharmaceutical and account management experience preferred
Minimum 5 years healthcare sales, strategy or customer facing experience to pharmaceutical and biotech companies (including sales/cold-calling experience, possibly in a quota-carrying role)
Self-starter with a proven track record to meet and/or exceed objectives with a drive for achievement
Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively
A good understanding of the sales/buying cycle; ability to assess sales opportunities is a necessity
Able to handle rejection and persevere
Strong communication skills (remote and/or in-person)
Ability to leverage high level knowledge of the customer's targeted medications
Team player with strong interpersonal and resource management skills.
Ability to work with a CRM system and ease of use with applications including, but not limited to Microsoft Outlook, Teams and Word.
Specialty pharmaceutical/Biotech industry knowledge and experience with a variety of commercialization products and services, highly desired
Experience in healthcare business-to-business selling a plus
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
