The College Board, the leading national educational organization known for the Advanced Placement Program® and the SAT®, seeks a Director of Strategy who will work urgently and entrepreneurially to solve the most difficult and interesting problems at the organization. The position is resident in New York City and reports to the Vice President of Strategy.
We seek an individual who combines the disciplines of finance, business, quantitative research, and/or strategy to lead strategy projects from concept to implementation handoff. This includes gathering and analyzing information, formulating and testing hypotheses, and developing and communicating recommendations. This position offers a rigorous development experience while tackling difficult questions for senior management, often the CEO and/or President.

Analyze the educational/technology sector and identify the biggest opportunities for the College Board and drive strategy across the organization against that landscape
Create business cases related to new products and develop those products in partnership with program leaders across the College Board
Identify and evaluate acquisition targets
The Director of Strategy will work closely with the VP of Strategy (a former McKinsey consultant) to drive forward cross-cutting strategic initiatives. They will drive 2-4 projects/initiatives at one time. Responsibilities include:
Define ambiguous problems and formulate hypotheses to drive new program/product development, current program improvements, and long-term organizational strategies to meet mission and business objectives.
Scope and lead qualitative and quantitative analyses to test product hypotheses. For example:
Analyze student data to evaluate implications on program decisions
Scope and conduct interviews and focus groups with students, counselors, or other educators.
Synthesize public information or data to understand the competitive landscape for new products
Work with experts within the organization, such as researchers, data scientists, policy analysts or UX researchers to build an evidence base to support or refute hypotheses
Manage external consultants on discrete project workstreams
Develop product and/or initiative prototypes, with recommendations grounded in rigorous analysis.
Present clear and compelling findings to senior management and work across the College Board to build consensus around our conclusions.
Collaborate with team members across the organization to implement recommendations.

4-7 years of years of data analysis, strategy, and/or consulting experience in business, education, or government settings
An outstanding record of academic and professional achievement and leadership
Flexibility, curiosity, and initiative to tackle problems big and small: you delight in digging deep into quantitative or qualitative data & information to uncover new insights about students as much as you enjoy developing a greenfield, 5-year vision for a new product
Exceptional analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills
