Define short and long-term goals and learning outcomes; provide strategic direction based on institutional context and best practices in the field
Develop a portfolio of signature programs that explore sexual orientation and gender identity/expression, address current events, and recognize intersections of identity
Serve as a resource, advisor, and advocate for LGBTQ students; proactively seek opportunities to build affinity, community, and sense of belonging
Meet with student organization leaders to help LGBTQ Student Life maintain strong relationships across campus and to identify opportunities for collaboration
Convene a Student Advisory Council and engage members throughout the year
Develop curriculum for workshops/trainings and intergroup dialogue programs
Facilitate discussions and dialogues on complex issues related to identity, climate, etc.
Represent LGBTQ Student Life and the Center for Identity + Inclusion on University-wide committees and workgroups and present to various audiences about our work and philosophy
Cultivate strategic partnerships and serve as a liaison to University departments
Maintain knowledge of campus and community programs/resources and refer students as appropriate
Manage marketing, communications, and outreach efforts
Manage program budgets and approve expenses
Regularly assess program quality and impact; prepare reports for key stakeholders that highlight successes and identify opportunities for growth
Supervise student employees
Solves problems in areas such as academic and administrative policy, student admissions, curriculum research and development, and budget development. Advises various campus-wide and program committees in various aspects of student life.
Recommends process improvements for programs that relate to critical student-life improvement, including emergency management, accommodations for students with disabilities, and/or the administration of health care services and programs for students.
Performs other related work as needed.
Educational background in student affairs, higher education administration, gender/sexuality studies, educational policy, counseling, or related field
5-7 years of professional experience in student affairs/higher education with an emphasis on supporting LGBTQ students
Supporting and advising students who identify at LGBTQ or have questions about sexual orientation and gender identity/expression
Developing large-scale programs related to identity, with a focus on LGBTQ communities
Designing curriculum and facilitating workshops and/or dialogues
Program evaluation and assessing student learning
Cultivating strategic partnerships
Experience with supervision
Ability to understand the needs of the University of Chicago community and work with students, staff, and faculty in a wide variety of situations
An understanding of and commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion
Demonstrated ability to foster community in complex academic or institutional environments
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to navigate sensitive situations
Strong project management, organizational, and analytical skills with exceptional attention to detail
Must exhibit creativity and flexibility
Ability to work regular evening hours and some weekends when required
