Reporting to the Vice President for Student Affairs, the Dean of Students & Assistant Vice President for Student Affairs (Dean/AVP) is a leader within the Division of Student Affairs (DSA) and across the Hofstra campus community. The Dean/AVP has responsibility for staff, programs, services, facilities, and resources of multiple DSA units that serve all students at the University, including the coordination of DSA assessment efforts. The Dean/AVP is an integral member of the Division of Student Affairs team who are committed to supporting student success and sense of belonging, while actively advancing best and next practices in student affairs.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
â€¢Serve as an advocate for all Hofstra University students. â€¢Collaborate with colleagues across the University to support the missions of the University and the DSA. â€¢Along with the Vice President and Associate Vice President for Student Affairs, provide positive and innovative leadership and administrative direction for a comprehensive and collaborative DSA. â€¢Cultivate an integrated, comprehensive, and intentional student life experience that contributes to the recruitment and retention of students by creating a welcoming, student-centered, diverse, and inclusive environment. â€¢Lead and coordinate DSA assessment efforts, including outcomes assessment, program review, and annual reporting (in collaboration with department directors and Institutional Research). â€¢Lead departments, programs, and services that promote a vibrant campus community; Student Leadership and Engagement, Orientation and class programming, lntercultural Engagement and Inclusion, Fraternity/Sorority Life, Student Government Association, Residence Life, Community Standards, Student Advocacy and Prevention Awareness, Commuter Student Services and Community Outreach, Interfaith Center, and Campus Recreation/Fitness Center. â€¢Provide direction and coordination for staff training across all areas of responsibility, including hiring, training, and evaluating staff. â€¢Lead comprehensive budget management and stewardship for all areas of supervision, including development of annual operating budgets and ensuring that resources are used efficiently and effectively. â€¢Direct staff in providing comprehensive student leadership development programs that promote learning and skill development. â€¢Direct staff in providing comprehensive drug/alcohol awareness and prevention programs that ensure a safe and secure campus environment. â€¢Direct staff in maintaining a developmentally appropriate, ethical, and accountable student conduct (Community Standards) system, including information management, hearing board supervision, and annual revisions to the Code of Student conduct (Guide to Pride). â€¢Coordinate DSA emergency and crisis response, including policies, procedures, and protocols involving students. â€¢Convene the CARES Team (Community Assessment Response and Evaluation of Students), chaired by the Associate Dean of Students. â€¢Stay professionally engaged (LICSPA, NASPA, ACPA, etc.) and stay abreast of applicable regulations, trends, laws, regulations, policies, procedures, and programs. â€¢Actively support and attend DSA and University-wide events. â€¢Serve on committees as assigned or invited. â€¢Perform other duties as required.
