Responsible for providing high quality advising and minimal programming to international students and scholars and promoting their full participation and integration into the University community. This position interprets internal University policies interfacing with federal immigration regulations affecting international students and scholars at Lehigh. The Associate Director is expected to serve as an expert in the field of scholars advising, especially for visas such as H1Bs and J-1 scholars. 1. Immigration advising and Non-immigration visa filings *Work with foreign nationals and academic departments on matters related to immigration and employment cases such as H1Bs and Program Electronic Review Management (PERM). *Assist departments in their quest to bring international scholars on J-1 visas; oversees departmental requests for new scholars *Counsels international students and scholars and University faculty and staff on a broad range of immigration and intercultural issues *Explain the regulations pertaining to foreign nationals to all audiences, including the international employee and the sponsoring departments *Respond to departments and foreign nationals on matters related to immigration regulations on a timely manner *Provide direct support to the Director of the Office of International Students and Scholars (OISS) in ensuring that Lehigh University is in full compliance with immigration regulations pertaining to international students and scholars and serves as the second point of contact for University officials and government agencies *Detailed knowledge of F-1 and J-1 nonimmigrant visa regulations and is considered as the point of contact and primary advisor for other U.S. immigration laws and classifications including H1B, Permanent Residency, asylum and refugee status *Responsible for issuing immigration documents to international scholars, including all J-1 scholars and students *Track scholars from documents issuances to arrival *Schedule and deliver orientation to J-1 students and scholars as required by the Department of State *Assist Director with completion of annual report for Department of State *Serves as a federal Designated School Official (DSO), Alternative Responsible Officer (ARO) and student and scholar adviser
2. Assist with campus wide educational outreach *Assist the Director of OISS in the design and delivery of programs and workshops tailored towards the Lehigh community of faculty, staff and students *Assist Director in designing training materials and handouts *Serve as a primary resource to departments and offices at Lehigh University *Responsible for providing timely and effective programming to international scholars on J-1 visas *Assists with new International Student Orientation programs and shares the responsibility of the tasks assigned
3. International Student advising *Serves as the primary adviser for students in the School of Health *Advises international students on immigration and intercultural matters when needed and in the absence of the Director for student advising *Share responsibility in making sure international students remain in compliance with immigration rules and regulations *Advise international student on matters such as: career, personal, finance, etc. *Serve as the second point of contact for all emergency related matters
4. Office and Budget Oversight *Work with Director on day to day budget operations *Serve as interim in the absence of the Director *Manage office and make sure tasks are completed during Director's absence *Represent the Director of OISS at meetings or campus presentation in his absence

This position is expected to work remotely while the campus remains in a limited capacity due to COVID-19; in the future it is expected that this position will be staffed on campus where they can be fully accessible to the Lehigh community
Bachelor's Degree in International Education, International Relations, Intercultural Communications, Higher Education Administration, Student Services or related field; Master's degree preferred
Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered
Five to eight years related work experience
Strong knowledge and expertise in Immigration Regulations required
Ability to operate in a fast-paced environment
Proven ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously and a high degree of initiative for bringing tasks to completion
Ability to identify priorities and meet deadlines
Excellent communication, interpersonal skills and a high level of customer service required
Solid organization skills, attention to detail and ability to work independently
Supervisory experience preferred
Successful completion of standard background checks including but not limited to: social security verification, education verification, national criminal background checks, motor vehicle checks, PATCH, FBI fingerprinting, Child Abuse Clearance and credit history based upon the requirements of the position
