The Department of Neurosciences mission is to create synergies and define the ideas and programs that will allow us to transform the way our community discovers, teaches, and cares. The UCSD Autism Center of Excellence, part of the Department of Neurosciences, is dedicated to discovering the causes of autism spectrum disorder (ASD) through multidisciplinary research that includes clinical phenotype, treatment, eye tracking, genetics, stem cell and brain imaging.
Provides support as an experienced professional for the creation of a system designed to evaluate level of autism risk based on a combination of parent questionnaires and eye tracking data. This includes processing raw eye tracking data using Python or other programming language and integration with an applications server. Under supervision leverages professional software concepts for the development of a user-friendly, scalable web-based system. Resolves complex and routine programming problems. Works on issues and projects of limited and complex scope. Follows standard and complex programming procedures to analyze situations and data from which answers can be readily obtained.
Successful applicant will also provide bioinformatics and biostatistical research support to discover eye-tracking based diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers and to determine subtypes as part of a multi-disciplinary team. Applicant will also work with PI and other team members to write up research findings for submission in scholarly journals. Applies skills as a seasoned, experienced software professional with a full understanding of industry practices, community standards and relevant policies and procedures to medium-sized projects or portions of large projects with moderate scope and complexity. Resolves a wide range of issues. Demonstrates competency in selecting tools, methods and techniques to obtain results.
Seven (7) years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus three (3) years of related experience.
Intermediate knowledge of secure software development.
Advanced skills associated with software design, modification, implementation and deployment, including object-oriented programming concepts.
Proven ability to understand functional needs and how systems can support those needs. Ability to develop conversion and system implementation plans.
Demonstrated ability to interface with management on a regular basis.
Strong ability to contribute technical narrative to grant proposals.
Thorough experience with identification and use of code libraries and open-source forums.
Experience with planning for deployment and creation of feedback mechanisms.
Proven software repository skills. Demonstrated testing and test planning skills.
