Hofstra University has an opening for a Chief Media Engineer within the Lawrence Herbert School of Communication, reporting to the Dean. The Schoolâ€™s facilities are extensive, consisting of television and sound recording studios, studio lighting systems, audio production rooms, screening rooms, student equipment room with an extensive collection of media production equipment, film finishing lab, Foley lab, vertical video lab, editing rooms, an on-air radio station, newsroom, remote television/film production and grip equipment, computer labs, and classroom multimedia presentation systems.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
â€¢SYSTEMS INTEGRATION: Design and construct all technical facilities. Maintain database of design and construction documentation. â€¢REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE: Manage repairs of equipment. Determine priorities, assign repairs to engineers, purchase parts and supplies, perform repairs. â€¢STAFF MANAGEMENT: Manage staff of 2.5 - two full-time engineers and one part-time audio/radio engineer. Maintain employee records. Liaise with University-level IT and Engineering teams. â€¢PURCHASING: Research and purchase major equipment and systems and maintain records. Write specifications for bids. Meet with sales representatives and attend trade events. â€¢SHOP MANAGEMENT: Establish procedures and policies with respect to construction and maintenance of facilities and equipment. Manage library of technical manuals. â€¢FACILITY: Work closely with the Facility Director on building issues: safe use of equipment, facility access, security, and general environmental issues. Advise on physical space renovations with Facility Director and University Architect and Plant Department. â€¢SUPPORT: Respond to outage and technical assistance calls from faculty and students; lead initial response to technical issues. â€¢PLANNING: Serve on school-wide technical committee. Continually assess and advise on hardware, software and facility needs to support curricular and extra-curricular work. â€¢SPECIAL PROJECTS: Advise and assist other University departments (PR, IT, Media Services, Special Events, Sports Facilities, Public Safety) with technical projects and equipment installations. Work on selected Special Events (Open Houses, Debates, studio events, etc.) as technical advisor and/or crew person.
