St. Matthew’s is seeking a Middle School Math Teacher. This individual will be responsible for creating and cultivating an environment that provides students with a foundation for lifelong learning, the development of self-advocacy skills, and resilience while demonstrating empathy and compassion for others.
This innovative team member will support our students and parents to carry forth the Episcopal tradition, Mission, Philosophy, and Core Values of our school. They will be responsible for designing a responsive, interdisciplinary program grounded in diversity, equity, and inclusion.

This position reports directly to the Middle School Director and is a 10 month position
Model the school’s philosophy in working with students, parents, colleagues, and administration
Work with the Middle School Director, Math Specialist and Math Department to carry out the academic program: curriculum development and implementation, classroom management, student assessment, and parent communication
Teach Math to 5th and 6th grade classes of approximately 12-15 students
Facilitate the emotional and social development of each student, which includes leading an advisory of approximately 12 students
Demonstrate professionalism, including discretion, judgment, and integrity
Collaborate with department colleagues, as well as work closely with other middle school faculty around teaching and learning
Support students in achieving their full potential of development and growth, through observation of students’ behavior and needs, and consult with the Middle School Director, School Counselor and Learning Specialist
Calculate and report grades in real-time; Write narrative progress reports to accompany grades at the end of each semester, and facilitate student-parent-teacher conferences
Attend and participate in the following: chapels, faculty in-service meetings, student assemblies, and other school functions, as requested
Attend weekly faculty meetings and actively participate in curricular discussions
Participate in professional development opportunities and keep current on educational issues and trends

Excellent oral and written communication skills
High proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Google Suite) accompanied by a willingness to learn new technologies
Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
Flexibility with the special needs associated with an academic calendar and schedule
Ability to display strong initiative, internal motivation, and a willingness to take on responsibilities beyond those explicitly defined.
Qualifications and Salary
A minimum of two years prior experience in Mathematics instruction in the classroom or field is essential.
A bachelor’s degree in Mathematics or a related field is required
California or other state teaching credentials are preferred, but not required.
